Go figure, if it were suppose to be all rain the totals would probably go up but because its snow the totals or models trend down, we can't even get it when it's forecast around here
FallsLake
Models are coming in a little better this morning, particularly for north central NC into S.VA. Here is the 6z FV3 (has support from old GFS and 3K NAM):
PackGrad05
Both the high-res NAM and HRRR show about a 3-4 hour pocket of rain moving through central NC. There is about a 3-4 hour lag period after rain ends before surface temps reach freezing. Whatever doesn't evaporate and dry up will likely freeze by morning. a5ehren
High temp forecast for me has already busted. Sitting at 47, supposed to be at 44. I'm thinking this one is dead for the core metro unless there are some really good reports from TN Valley.
Cheeznado
Over in AL no reports of accumulation to speak of, HRRR and 3km NAM have no snow here at all....BUST! I say let's go directly to severe weather season. This could easily be the first year in a long time where there was not even one flake of snow IMBY. kvegas-wx
Somebody is N GA is going to see about 90 seconds of snow according to radar this morning. Hope all those kids that are out of school today enjoy those flakes!

Touchet
Hmm. Looks like the dry colder air is finally starting to undercut the frontal moisture. What are the chances that the south central portions of AL and GA end up seeing heavy snow showers with temps in the mid 30s. It may not stick, but it will be pretty to look at. eyewall
As usual, cold air chases almost never work out. This is no exception. The writing was on the wall well before this morning.
NEGa
well if it were 10 degrees colder it would be snowing lol. not surprised to see rain this morning - as eyewall and cheez said (and many of us who grew up here know) cold chasing rain is almost always a no-go

superjames1992
Dang, this didn't even work out in AL/MS as far as I can tell (nevermind east of the Appalachians which you figured wasn't going to happen). And they canceled school in some of these areas, too. Disaster.
FallsLake
For central NC, the 12z 3K NAM backed off the snow chances. We can still hope, but.....
vman722
Last winter was too good to us in the ATL and surrounding burbs, knew we were bound for an inevitable disappointment this go around. Temps aren't even close right now and looking at mesoanalysis, they are marginal even way behind the front back in AL. Hopefully we get a shot in February sometime but not holding my breath. PackGrad05
Taken literally, the 12Z 3KNAM shows about 4 hours of precipitation for Wake County. Question still remains how much dries before it freezes on roadways.
