Looks great for my trip up to Killington this weekend!!!  NWS going with 18-24" there.  As for here...this is an easy one to let go, pattern was never right.  I do think the NW fringes of our forum get a little bit of snow 1-2" on the front side and then some ice before the deluge.  For the rest...better times are ahead.  Just remember, we had rain in the middle of some of our best snow periods in history, we just tend to gloss over that years later when we think back on the snow.

Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC

.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/...
A strong area of low pressure will approach the region from the
Tennessee Valley on Saturday. Warm advection aloft will
overspread the area late Saturday morning through early Saturday
afternoon allowing precipitation to breakout. Precip looks to
arrive a bit earlier than previously anticipated, but still
should transition fairly quickly from snow to sleet to freezing
rain and then, in the warmer spots, rain. With high pressure
situated to the north, and model guidance indicating a small
wedge of higher pressure holding strong to the west of the Blue
Ridge/East of the Allegheny Front, there is high concern that
cold air will remain locked in at the surface much longer
across portions of West Virginia Panhandle, Western/Northern
Maryland and the northern Shenandoah Valley. All model guidance
has a strong southerly low-level jet (on the order of 50 kts)
blasting warm air in aloft Saturday evening across the entire
CWA. If cold air remains locked in at the surface for the
aforementioned areas, a prolonged period of freezing rain or
sleet could ensue. Temps were trended down and ice amounts
trended up based on this. Some expansion of the winter storm
watch is possible later today.

WPC latest track looks like the nams

I said yesterday low goes right over DC. That track keeps us in low 40’s and then when you have extreme cold lurking the low quickly “flushes” the cold air downward and into our area very quickly after moving east/northeast of the city.

Euro wind gust panels (usually overdone) are showing 35-40mph gusts with temps in the teens late Sunday afternoon. We may not get much frozen out of this deal but it's going to feel like deep winter late Sunday through all of Monday.

ETA: Up to 50mph gusts in NE MD on Monday. Not a good day to walk around nude in the yard.

Euro is a significant event for the mountains of western MD.  Cumberland gets over 6” of snow.  Garrett basically stays below freezing the whole event except for an hour or two after midnight as temps really crash.

How much snow does Garrett county get?  It is hard to tell on these maps how the mountains in Garrett county are affected.

I think we gust to 50 around DC with sustained at 25-30 for  hours. Who has the date of that arctic plastering frontal squall from several years ago?

Winter storm warnings up for northern Baltimore County and other parts of Maryland. I'm shocked.

They seem to be being overly cautious..I guess maybe they think colder ground temps will come into play? Or the shutdown has mentally drained them. I don’t see any model that supports 1” of snow around Baltimore currently
