Juliancolton
Check out that temp gradient aligned to the Taconic. 10-degree difference or better in 5 miles.
nycemt123
I'm extremely confused with this storm. No clue whatsoever on what to expect overnight, nor what to expect to wake up to. Lots of posts in main thread but I'm ot seeming to make any sense of the bigger picture.Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
gravitylover
Looks like I had ~4" before the flip to sleet. That brought it down to 3 and the heavy freezing rain I'm getting now has it down to 2, maybe a bit less. We've got transformers popping outside now. My power is still on but the next block over is dark. It's 30* and the ice is building quickly now
gravitylover
It's ugly out there, easily .25" of ice and it's still raining. I'm disappointed in the neighbors that said they'd help clear the driveway then did theirs but ignored ours.
CPcantmeasuresnow
Final snow tally 5.0 inches. Changed to freezing rain and sleet about 1AM which has now compacted to 4.5 inches of snow, ice that I can walk on top of. 30.0 degrees after most of the night in the low to mid 20's. Not as much ice on the trees as you would think, I believe most must have fallen as sleet or ice pellets. Pretty much what I expected except I still have power, for now. Juliancolton
I've just hit 32.0. The cold tuck down the river valley still amazes me with temps remaining in the low 20s just a few miles to my west. Never seen anything quite like it. 3.4" was the most I measured over the course of the night.

gravitylover
It's back below freezing (31) and dropping with moderate rain falling and the wind is picking up again. It's getting ugly.

BxEngine
Pretty crappy ice/slush/leaf dams on the roadways, if the temps dont go up soon we’re in trouble even down here.
CPcantmeasuresnow
Trees ice covered, snowblower broke and I'm not shoveling this. Anyone know any plow guys in Highland Mills/Central Valley area?
gravitylover
It's still raining pretty hard here and the temp has dropped to 30, a few local stations are showing 29. The ice just keeps getting thicker Tree limbs are hanging down to the ground now all around, it's just a matter of time before the power goes out. Well now the ice and leaves have clogged up the storm drains and the roadway is flooded. We drop a couple more degrees and the county will be at a standstill lol

Well that rain was a bitch to shovel... I said in one of the threads last week that the biggest story would be the freeze up. I still feel that way, anyone who waits to clear this now is screwed.

My stone driveway is a bitch, can’t scrap that but I just threw sand on it and will likely hit it again after the freeze up, some salt too at that point

Using salt on the stone driveway can crest quite the muddy mess with frozen ground underneath.
gravitylover
I made my own salt/sand mix. We got 100 pounds of sand and 80 pounds of salt and mixed them about 50/50. It seems to be working pretty well. Looks like the rain is stopping now, hopefully that's it as the temp is still dropping.

Non corrosive and salt will be useless with tonight's temps.
