If it doesn't work, I'm not getting another one by midnight tonight anyway I dont have a generator. Dont want to jinx myself but we've only lost power once (12 days after sandy) in the 20 years we've lived in croton. Wondering if a tesla powerwall as backup battery is price competitive with a generator.

We bought ours right before floyd in 99, used it for a few days then, have probably used it 5 times since then...although thats probably more a product of a wood burning stove and laziness more than a lack of need lol

Juliancolton
This is a wicked warm layer. Mesos seem to be trending back toward a sloppier solution this evening after it looked like a mostly-snow event was possible.

Whenever these come in later than expected it always is at the expense of snow.
CPcantmeasuresnow
29.8° and nothing I'm interested in falling. I knew something was wrong when my weather app jumped from a 3-5 to a 5-8 inch snow prediction about 6pm last night, when all short term models were starting to show the complete opposite. gravitylover
I've got more than double that It's scary out there now. I have a feeling it's not so bad on the main streets but my top o' the hill dead end is a skating rink. The driveway is a disaster with .5" of ice and the cars are solid ice. Gonna go spend an hour or 3 getting it cleaned up before it gets cold. Uggh...

I think as long as we do a serviceable clean-up job today, we'll be able to avoid locking in the ice through the upcoming cold snap
gravitylover
Boy I hope you're right because it's a mess. It took me just under 2 hours to chip all the ice off the cars and scrape a path off the driveway.
IrishRob17
Yeah, it’ll be nice to get some of this .4” of ice off the trees before the winds tomorrow night. My driveway is a lost cause, thankfully that raging pacific jet (wish I had a quarter for every time that phrase is used) will warm things up this weekend. gravitylover
Well so much for that melting that was going on. Even though it didn't get over 30 where the sun got to things there was significant melting but now the clouds have moved in and the temp is dropping again and the melting stopped. The ice didn't even melt off the power lines, bushes and natural surfaces are still fully encased, the street is still wet but probably not for long, driveway is passable and will have to do but the back patio is still 1/4" thick solid ice and the yard is a crunchy slickery mess as evidenced by the dog sliding down the hill. Is it really Sunday before we get above freezing again? Uggh
Juliancolton
Sweet shots, folks. Agree about clouds returning sooner than I had hoped and anticipated, though the sun still did its job on most of my driveway. South-facing slope FTW (or L, in most cases). gravitylover
Just had a little snow squall move through and the cloud deck thinned a bit so it's back to filtered sunlight, no melting though
IrishRob17
Had a decent squall come through central Orange County in the past hour, best one I've seen in a few years.
gravitylover
Yup that was a good squall for sure. Too bad it was so short, I'd have liked more the a quarter inch but it stuck to everything because this whole place is a block of ice already and with all the salt on the street it's still just wet. IrishRob17
It’s difficult to capture in a photo (except maybe for @Juliancolton) just how gorgeous sunset was here tonight with ice still on everything. As the wind blows you can hear the nice creaking and cracking. Deep winter.
gravitylover
Looks like another line of snow squalls is gonna roll through here in a while. This isn't even nickel and diming my way up, it's pennies at a time.
Hitman
It’s like a scenery crew for a movie came by and plastered snow all over to accent the ice.
Juliancolton
Yeah, the ice made for some really striking visuals today. Still not sure it was a fair trade for my 4-7" tho
