SI Mailman
Boxing Day is going to be my number 1 for a long time. The jackpot for that one went right over Staten Island. Ended up with 30 inches.
Nibor
Boxing Day is why I became a member here. I got stuck at my sisters in Leonardo, NJ for almost a week. I have no idea how they got legitimate snow measurements down the shore because of the drifts. In a class of its own.

Seriously, I stay inside. With the AC blasting. I do that unless I'm at the beach but I also keep track of the heat. It's something I've always been interested in because it's the one historic thing we had back in the early 90s. The summers of 91 and 93 especially were amazing and reaching 100 degrees at the coast or higher felt like getting a 2 foot blizzard. 2010 was my favorite all time summer though and exceeded all of them, although my favorite heat wave came the year after that. Dolphins are too smart to talk lol When are they going to make a movie about a (real) snowstorm! They even made one about the Perfect Storm, which was a boring storm besides the high winds and the novelty of a backwards moving storm (at that time- there have been many since.) Byrdhousebv
Although the memories of the February Blizzard of 1978 remain keen, the post Christmas 2010 storm is tops on my list. My niece and her 7 yr old daughter arrived from Florida several days before Christmas. The youngster had never seen snow before. There was reasonable certainty of some light snow starting late Christmas day or the following. I thought I'd be clever and bought her a snow globe and told her if she kept shaking it, we might get some snow. By late evening on the 26th, it was snowing so hard she became frightened and hid the globe in a closet. We ended up with 29".

Tatamy
I would go with 2/78 and 1/16. 2/78 was especially dramatic with high winds and low near zero visibility’s for hours on end along with 30” of snow. 1/16 also brought 30” of snow with very high rates. As dramatic as Boxing Day was its most significant impacts were felt in eastern NJ and places to the north and east of there in the region. We only had a couple of inches from that one here. Cfa
My only ice storm memory is of the Jan 1999 ice storm in the DC area, it was serious, the landscape looked very alien, all trees and power lines sagged in ways I’d never seen (and still haven't seen again), I recall one power line encased in thick ice dangling right in front of the window just a few feet away. This event was also my earliest weather memory.

Wow, that’s more like an incredible winter. Below zero in 3 seperate months! Snow cover days must be near the top as well. The February storm was most likely a coastal hugger so I would assume inland there were probably totals over 3’.

Wow I wonder what made that storm last for 75 hours? Was that our longest lasting wintry storm or did March 1888 last longer?

If it's the one I remember, it was about 14 inches, didn't snow in AC, and kinda wasn't expected to be that bad... Craziest rates I've ever seen. Got about 6 inches and was lucky to see even that.
saberonyx
I saved the papers from that 96 storm since I work in a school for 40 years it's up to me to remove snow. I've been in this school for every snow event from a dusting to 28in for 40 years, my job to remove every flake (nyc) Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
