Be careful putting stuff like this in writing until 2020 is in the rearview window please..

I'm not superstitious about numbers and I have a strong feeling that what happened in 2020 is something that is just going to become more common.  We're never going back to the way things were before.  The media should be hammering that point and not falling for this weird "2020" mystique.

6" snowfalls from 1854-1872...Jan 1857 is missing...

1872...from the NY Tribune...(bottom of page)...

http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn83030214/1873-01-01/ed-1/seq-1/

hey does this also give seasonal snowfall totals?  I'm looking for some of those years in the 1800s when NYC was near 100" of seasonal snowfall.

1867 may have been it.....holy f*ck that was a snowy year

1867, Jan 16-17 12 inches

1867, Jan 20 6 inches

1867, Feb 20-21 23 inches

1867, Mar 16-17 13 inches

1867 Dec 11-12  12 inches

1868 Mar 20-21 12 inches

That was a pretty snow period right there

Only 16 inches at JFK half that of my favorite in Jan 2016 that dumped 31 inches here.

Boxing Day is my least favorite storm of all time. It started with the crazy gfs runs 2-3 days out when all the models had lost the storm only to bring it back. It was Looking like we’d be right in the heart of it, but those crazy deformation bands stayed just to my east (philly). I vividly remember reading your guys NYC obs thread and earth light having a weeniegasm while it was piling up. One day philly will get one of those pivots. They either setup too far Nw or too Far East.

Ummm 2/5-6/10???????? We watched you get smoked! I could see the heavy snow bands over the ocean but only managed a couple inches of wind blown pixie dust

Better than here.  Just enough for a few minutes to see fragile filaments of pixie dust shifting through ephemeral pathways down the street.

Has it really been 20 years?  20 years ago today at my place we had a little over 11" of snow.  Decent storm, especially when we got 5 or 6" in a couple of hours in the morning.  It turned briefly to rain here and then quicky back to snow as we were right on the edge of the transition.  About 8 miles to the west, Northport stayed all snow.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE WISHES TO THANK ALL SPOTTERS AND OBSERVERS FOR THEIR VITAL INFORMATION DURING THIS SNOW EVENT.

This storm is so nostalgic for me. Even though philly didn’t do great it was the first storm I tracked on wx forums. Remember reading DT on wright weather/twc forums posting about it lol. Idk why I remember this, but a few days before this event models actually had a huge Miller A system. Of course that didn’t come to fruition and the northern branch did its own dirty business.

If memory serves, the difference at PHL was between 8" on the east side and nada on the west side.  Lots of understandable frustration, especially with a couple of feet in parts of north Jersey.

I think the city (PHL) did ok-maybe 8 or 9 inches at the airport, but as you headed S and W amounts dropped drastically over 20-30 miles to nothing.   Baltimore had a winter storm warning the night before and woke up to sunny skies-tremendous bust.   It actually busted further north-we were supposed to turn to rain, never did and got 15 inches.

Yeah I stayed up watching the precip form off the Carolinas. I fell asleep at like 4-5am right before it started in Philly and slept through the heaviest part lol. I always like to be awake for the first flakes, just my thing. I got 7-8 or so in northeast philly.

15-16 inches here in SW Nassau County, was amazing to see on a track like that, it never changed over.

Yeah same here, 15-16 inches on the western part of the south shore of LI and no changeover

Since 12/30/00 is being discussed. Famartin has an incredible archive. His YouTube page has tons of nostalgic vids. From 12/30/00

What’s really strange is I vividly remember the weather channels miss Cleo infomercials in the late 90s early 2000s lmao. I actually recall watching this clip live. Once again, no clue why but I remember every detail of this storm well

I went to sleep nervous because nothing was showing on radar yet. I woke up around 7 to a blanket of white with very heavy snow falling
