Clipper has been getting stronger with each succeeding model run. Might very well end up being bigger than this past weekend for us. (yeah I know...not saying a lot, but for a clipper it looks pretty good right now)

Im not sure why they are calling it a clipper, and if they are it needs to be called a Wyoming  clipper, not an Alberta, cause that's where this thing pops onto the weather maps.  Regardless, I'll take a couple inches and like it.  Appetizer for the weekend main course.

6z GFS verbatim is pure porn.  I suggest every snow lover play the loop a few times.  It appears that we are heading for a wild ride.  Wowzers

Not parsing through details and "well some of that is not snow" stuff at this long lead, but i think it fair to say that it is going to be a busy busy time for sure.

I have already received a "friends and family" email asking about predictions so the media must really be pumping this up.  Afraid to say anything as the two LR models I trust the most show it getting to 50 and raining a lot.  GFS is an all out dumping though :-).

Yeah, I've had a couple as well.  I'd just tell them to "buckle up buttercup".  :)

We all know we may not be on the right side of the snow fence for some, but looking at the back half of the GFS says opportunities will be frequent and IF....IF we hit them right, we could see snow totals like 95-96/09-10.  Man I sure hope so.

Oh to live in the Sierra...Mammoth Mountain has a "Special Weather Statement" for 4' - 7' of snow. That's not a typo on my part, that's feet.

What do they need to get a Winter Storm Warning for goodness sake?

That's the big boy that is headed east to a location near you this weekend.

That is quite the range.  Do we all have that liberty of saying we nailed it if we get within 36" of the total?  LOL. If so then I am locking in for this weekend.  LSV sees 1"-37".

Good Morning Folks,

I found this forum last year(along with the circus of a forum down in the Mid Atlantic). I used to do a pay per year weather service forum. You guys are just as good and provide more detailed info, along with a lot more of it from multiple sources. I don't really plan to post a whole lot because I don't know enough to add any really useful information. It's really refreshing to know other people like me exist, when major weather of any kind come around to our area, my wife hates me. haha. Like, thinks I am nuts that I can spend so much time staring at the radar, looking outside, other forums, cranky's blogs/tweets, NOAA, Horst's site, Bobby M's facebook videos, etc.......All I am trying to say is, I appreciate you guys and everything you post. I finally joined the forum officially because I needed to get that off my chest.  Also, even though I stalk the lower forum. I will not be posting this down there. Wayyyy to hostile and they probably don't consider southern Pa the Mid Atlantic for some reason. I have a lot of respect for those of you who have the balls to post down there.

Thanks

-Josh S.

Welcome to our forum, Josh!  Please feel free to post any time.  We need more frequent conversation around here anyway.  At the very least, when we get a good storm, like maybe this upcoming weekend, we usually start a separate thread for obs posting.  I would encourage you to post your storm obs as we all like to keep tabs on how everyone else is doing.  :)

Hi Josh and welcome.  I just came back myself after a 13 year hiatus (re: lived in Florida).   Not much has changed since I left as to the "other forum".   I live exactly one half mile from the Maryland line and I choose to post here.

It is funny how a lot of us have similar stories about wives and friends thinking we are different because we enjoy weather.  I have noticed that many of the people like this are between 40 and 70 so I think it has something to do with the prevalence of NOAA weather radios and news stations that focused on weather, like KYW in Philly, during the 70's and 80's.  Stuff like that got a lot of people addicted...and without easy access to "the internet" back then.  It somehow seemed to form this cult of weather followers who all take it out on the internet now.  I am sure there were weather nuts before this but without the internet to bring them together it did not grow to the level that it has now.

Thanks, I will definitely give obs updates. I will try and post useful/educated info when I can. Mostly info from good sources, that maybe wasn't already discussed. With that said, because I want to post relevant info.  I use NWS State College discussions, Horst, Bobby Martrich, Cranky, Bernie Rayno, and a couple other folks. Who do you guys trust the most and put the most weight on their thoughts?

Thanks! I am 29, my dad(62) got me into it. Over the past couple years(just got a smartphone a month ago) I have been educating him on the online resources for weather. He is coming along...haha

Well welcome aboard the Snow Train Josh.   Glad you like it here.  Post away.  Lotsa level heads w/ some fun along the way.

Most of us love snow, but is "just snow".  Mini meltdowns do happen on occasion, but nothing like MA forum.  I'm old enough to not care about what they think of me, so I post cause I like talking bout snowstorms and know enough to be "dangerous"....lol

BTW, I work in ETOWN (typing this from there).  Small world.
