BlunderStorm
The lightest graupel has begun to fall finally. I trust the radar but golly is there some dry air underneath the level where it is scanning. This has not got off to a stellar start. It's going to be a fight. The temperature for whatever reason has now climbed to 36.
John1122
Precip type radar I have access to shows snow here but it's 50/50 at best. Slushy nickel to quarter sized flakes and rain mix. All sleet from earlier is gone.
John1122
Also Middleboro that was snowing earlier is now raining. Looked like the rain line was creeping into the snow line east of here as well. Maybe the 3 am switchover will be the case afterall.
BlunderStorm
The column has moistened enough for a steady light mix. I think I'm seeing every precip type under the sun all at once.
BlunderStorm
The temperature has dipped back to 35 and the dew point is jumping up to meet it. Heavy graupel is now being mixed with snow. It's getting there.
Windspeed
Temp holding at 33° but getting a heavy sleet/graupel mix with flakes.
BlunderStorm
The temp has dropped another degree to 34. It's got to the point where seeing it drop a degree feels like a small victory. As for precip type I'd say it's roughly 2/3rds graupel 1/3rd snow. EDIT: Make that 33 woo! It's finally back to where I started temperature wise good grief. John1122
Heavy rain with less mix now than earlier. Hopefully this is the peak of the upper level warming and it can cooperate towards morning.
AMZ8990
Temp at 32 and falling on the west side of the state with a steady rain, got winter storm warnings In arkansas and West Tennessee that have gone up for ice/snow in several counties close to me: I don’t know if I’ll changeover here but it’s cold out there! Icy Hot
33 degrees with moderate snow in Colonial Heights. Side roads and everything else covered.
TellicoWx
Until the flow from the SW begins to turn off, the 850s/925s will struggle against it. The shutdown is basically from Winchester to Cookeville currently. The it's up to being under the comma head and getting enough dynamic cooling as the 850s should improve after that water cannon is turned off. Almost to 2" of rain so far for me. John1122
Temps on the up and up here. 35 up from 33. Congrats to those getting the snow in extreme west and NE Tennessee. Hopefully this warmnose doesn't blast you like it has me. Have to hope the commahead track is good or this will become an all time bust here. I'll also have to reevaluate how I use models. As this would become an all tme model fail at the surface.
Windspeed
32° and moderate snow. Only got an inch of accumulation so far but that is probably due to the initial sleet/graupel slush mix melting on the ground. Things are picking up now. Expect accumulations to build from this point forward.
1234snow
A lot of sleet ongoing currently. Probably quarter inch of accumulation. Much less than other areas.
John1122
Up to 37 now as temps are torching at every level. Hopefully this is the last push of warmth from the system. It looks like Crossville may be falling and they had "precipitation" rather than rain last I saw.

I'm still seeing a mix of sleet and rain IMBY.
John1122
Yes, just pouring rain here. No sleet and no snow recently either.
1234snow
All freezing rain for the past 40 minutes here. Areas to the south and south east are getting heavy snow. Go figure.
John1122
Being east is winning this one. Had ssw winds here. Killed everything. East is getting e or ene winds and the snow line is holding fairly steady. Surprised the warm nose hasn't managed to make any progress that way but it seems to be stuck at Morristown or so. John1122
About to hit the dryslot. With luck we can manage to get N winds soon.

I am in Washington County and it's now been 100 percent freezing rain and slush for over an hour. So I'm not sure where the snow line is but it hasn't been snowing here in a good while. I'm about ready to give up for the night and hope to see a little bit of snow in the morning I guess. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
Windspeed
Heavy sleet at 32°. No flakes at all. But when I say heavy sleet, I mean it. I don't remember ever seeing sleet come down that hard. Even as sleet, it's accumulating. The 925-850 mb is being annoying atm even as far east as Bristol.
DownNDirtyTN
Just looking at the radar and knowing that it's mostly sleet now in Washington County unless there's something I'm missing - which is entirely possible - I don't see how we are going to get any accumulations at this point. But I am more of a lurker than anything. I'm not in full panic mode since I don't understand everything like some of you guys do but I will say that if we don't get any real results from this one I will probably not believe anything until I actually see it going forward. John1122
I had 3 inches of sleet with about 3 inches of snow a few years ago, robbed me of an epic snow event as areas just north of me got 15 inches. But you don't see multi-inch sleet events very often on our side of the Apps.
Windspeed
This looks like sleet mixed with freezing rain right now. It's 31° here. This could get ugly fast. I'm going to set my alarm and try to catch a little sleep. Hopefully this ZR is short lived.

Carvers Gap
Moderate snow falling in Kingsport...was heavy a minute ago w flakes the size of silver dollars. At about 1.5" of sleet and snow. When heavier bands come in, it switches to snow. Otherwise, it is a mixed bad. The cold and snow are slowly but gradually overtaking most of TRI. Taking its time. Carvers Gap
Moderate(maybe a bit heavier than that) snow still falling in west Kingsport. So far, have picked up what looks like slightly more than 2" of snow on the picnic table out back. There is a base of sleet under that. It appears that the cold has worked its way in with the heavy rates and it has slowly moved in slowly from the east. Looks like areas west and northwest of Nashville are getting quite a bit of snow(Clarksville and maybe Whitehouse) and also northwest TN/southwest KY. Hopefully we will get some reports from the folks out that way.
