With a 46" depth, there was an average of 15.0" of water in the snowpack, though some readings were as high as 16.5". So well over a foot of water is sitting in the snowpack at the base elevations of the ski areas up this way... The historic "Barnes Camp" location that was renovated a few years back near where the snow plot is...you go up stairs to get into this place yet the snow is still almost half-way up the first story. Nope, just my personal observations over the past 10 years. It's a high snow depth day type of winter...lots of moisture rich systems with minimal melting and even if the temp briefly spiked above freezing, this east side bench holds cold. Flat area at 1500ft, east side of the terrain gap that is Smugglers Notch, the base of Stowe is a surprisingly easy access weenie location at the bottom of a 4000ft slope. But it's only 10 years of observations, 2011 snow depth at 1,500ft was pretty good as a winter on the whole but didn't have the QPF of this winter locked up in it. I've been following the Sierra avalanche discussions and it's been pretty incredible the amount of snow/water that has been plastered into the Lake Tahoe to Mammoth Lakes zone in California.
