With a yearly total like that it is somewhat surprising to see there were four months below normal.

What a difference a week makes. Last Sunday 31º with snow. Today partly cloudy and 60º.

I was thinking the same thing.... Still have some snow piles left, but if it wasn't for that, you would have never known that it snowed last week. That's December climo for you..... similar to March.

Another significant rainstorm is imminent for a region that has seen record-breaking to historic precipitation amounts in areas this year. A general 1"-2" rainfall with locally higher amounts appears likely tomorrow into perhaps Friday.

Below is a chart that provides year-to-date precipitation amounts, 2018's rank among the wettest years, and various ranking scenarios for select sites:

The significant precipitation event is getting underway.

So far, Pensacola has picked up 2.58" rain. That brings 2018's total precipitation to 84.76". 2018 now ranks as that city's 9th wettest year on record.

Charleston, SC has had 0.21" early in the event. That boosts 2018 to that city's 23rd wettest year with 56.07" precipitation.

PGV all time record is 70.23, currently we sit at 64.45" and that's before todays rain we could make a run at the all time but it seems unlikely......more remarkably though is that the last 5 years together are by far the wettest period in PGV history....we are 68" over normal since Jan 1 2014. That well over a years worth of extra rainfall in that time frame.

2014 61.45"

2015 69.09"---missed all time by 1.14"

2016 69.96"----missed all time by .27"

2017 50.49"---right on average

2018  64.45" and counting.....
