I'm sure they're fired up about giving up a vacation day to come in and fix it, but our hope is that the data is there we just can't connect remotely. Now how does that work? They're sending altimeter data, but nothing else. Is the altimeter separate from the rest of the suite?

It's not a manned airport all the time, so there is no back up.

dendrite
At least -20F at SLK this morning. Nuts. There's a slight chance they were even colder between 8-12z when the data was out.

The ACU is what stores data that we can recover. So when the radios kicked it, the ACU wasn't receiving data to store. So we'll never know what happened at CON... dendrite
Doh So what’s the solution? No data and no record or an estimate? I vaguely recall you saying before that there’s no more estimation of the data.

All of the river HADS sites around there were 16F or 17F. Enough for the daily record, but 2nd all-time for November.

It's easier to get away with estimation with precip and even snow, because it's far more uniform across a city scale. But temps can vary pretty widely, so I've only ever seen manual back up used if the airport is manned 24/7.

What would the standard deviation be on a 17/6 day at CON for 11/22? The missing late min on 11/21, the entire day of 11/22, and the missing min this morning is going to have a large effect on the monthly mean. Probably your offices petty cash would handle it

The irony is probably that the cold snap and the malfunction are related. The radios were probably set to go, and the cold just helped them along. Probably your offices petty cash would handle it Well for starters we'd need like 20 of them for backing up all of our equipment. Even if we just backed up our climate sites, that's like 2 grand. That's nearly our yearly travel budget, so no petty cash does not cover expenses. Also the continuous continuing resolutions suck for getting anything new. When Congress passes a budget on a continuing resolution, it is frozen at the last fully passed budget. Meaning there is no planning for the future. So it's not like we could even run it up the chain and request more money for Davis's, because it's just not there.
