As of 5:35 pm it's now 90% sleet and pouring down at 31F. Note that in those 20 minutes, the snow compacted to 5.75", so if anyone measures well after the sleet starts, they'll likely see compaction. Would've easily verified a warning and barely had an advisory this morning. Just saw a report of people stuck on the GWB for 3+ hours - my worst nightmare. As of 6:45 pm, it's still just 30F here and we have gotten 1/2" of sleet in the 90 minutes since it started sleeting heavily (I cleared the board from the 6.25" of snow at 5:15 pm). That makes sense as sleet is usually a ~3:1 ratio, so 1/2" of sleet is equivalent to about 1.6" of 10:1 snow, which would translate to a little over 1" per hour rates for the last 90 minutes. If it came in patchy and more showery, the column would’ve warmed up much sooner and we would’ve seen much less. This storm has delivered more than all but one late March storm last year for me. kat5hurricane
Stuck on the bus in Midtown. We've moved about 3 blocks since 5:30. What an absolute nightmare, the city got caught completely unprepared. I might as well go to a hotel nearby right now and go to work in the same clothes tomorrow because I'm not going anywhere anytime soon. I can only imagine what the roads in Whitestone are like.
