As of 11:54 am, Baltimore had received 1.14” rain. That brings total precipitation for 2018 to 59.05”. Only 2003 with 62.66” precipitation and 1889 with 62.35” precipitation saw more precipitation.

4 of Baltimore’s 10 wettest years and 6 of its 20 wettest years have occurred 2000 or later.

Based on Baltimore’s historic record, which goes back to 1871, Baltimore will likely set a new annual precipitation record this year.

Implied Statistical Probabilities (based on the November 6-December 31, 1871-2017 data and the current 2018 figure):

62.66” or more: 82%

New annual record:
62.67” or more: 82%

65.00” or more: 46%
70.00” or more: 1%

Summary November 6-December 31 data:

Mean precipitation: 5.73”
Median precipitation: 5.67”
Least precipitation: 1.31”, 1965

I just went by lower Four Mile Run in the upper Arlington/Alexandria boundary.

Water was flowing over the trunks of trees (normally high and dry even in rain).

The USGS rain gauge near DCA showed about 1.5 inches of water in this latest rain episode, but no flooding.

I drove 35 in 45 mph zones due to all the ponding of water in the roadways.  Hydroplane city, folks.

Cameron Run along 495 made it to around flood stage this morning.

Is DCA or IAD close to a yearly rainfall record? I’ve only followed BWI.

DCA has a shot at its annual record. IAD’s record may be out of reach.

Total 2018 Precipitation through 3 pm:

DCA: 55.10” (6th wettest year on record)
IAD: 54.79” (5th wettest year on record)

Records:
DCA: 61.33”, 1889
IAD: 65.69”, 2003

IAD monthly/annual precipitation: http://www.weather.gov/media/lwx/climate/iadprecip.pdf

.68” here today in Lothian, MD, and 74.86” for the year so far. Last year we ended with 36.12 for annual total. Feel like I’m living in Seattle.

Dc has a higher avg rainfall than Seattle btw.
