I had a light dusting in the morning before it melted around 1 pm. Second accumulating snow of the season.

This has now happened 3-4 times just this week where out of the blue the sun will come out fully right at 12:30 pm EDT! Its been totally overcast any other time of this week. Usually it'll be for a few minutes and each time its lasted around 5-7 minutes before going back under thick clouds. I think this is more than a coincidence, its +/- 4 minutes from 12:30 and yesterday it was dead on that minute. Today it was 12:27 pm. It shouldn't have happened on a day like this at all. It must have something to do with the peak sun "angle" of the day or exact mid-point of daylight and effects the climate briefly. Any ideas?

Currently 17/4 here tonight. Bitterly cold by November standards for sure.

Record low at ORD for the 10th is 18F (1986 and 2017), which is one of the warmer record lows in November.  Already 20 there so could get interesting.

3 inches of snow and counting.  Current temp is 17 degrees. Feels and looks like deep winter.

I'm with ya! Low temp early in the night was 9 degrees, then flurries and clouds moved in.  After the storm and hard blow, noticed portions of the roof have 2'+ drifts already.   "Winter is here again oh lord"

Starting the Winter long snowcover the 2nd week of November is certainly not uncommon up there, but is it unusual to have this much snow this early?

Each year has been different. Nov 11-12 of 2014 32” fell. It was the wind that made this so impressive. A foot of snow I’d say is pretty common here in Nov tho.

Gotta post the CFS.  You know me...

Looks like we won't have the cold north and west/warm south and east gradient like October, unless this is completely wrong.

This CFS forecast now looks pretty silly. +2 deg C (+4 deg F) is so wrong for the entire Midwest, and a bunch of the country. The Nov 1-12 anomales are:  -6 deg F in Illinois!

Yeah, it will warm up later this month but not enough to overcome the cold.  Gonna be a spectacular fail almost everywhere in the CONUS by the looks of it.  Usually when it's off, you can at least point to it being right in other regions... or getting the general character of the month right or picking up on sharp temperature gradients even if they end up a bit misplaced, but not this time.

Hope it doesn't have a cold December I guess?  :devilsmiley:
