Even Ganahl had a scandal wrt prescription drug abuse and was arrested....this was back in the mid 90's and at the time it was big news. He weathered (no pun) that storm though somehow and is still around. The death of Chris Bradley last year... CMH meterologists, not a lucky group. Winter weather forecasting in the OV can drive meteorologists into risky, stress relieving behaviors.

Looks like they have Ohio in the epicenter of greatest snowfall departure from normal, (150%). lol Pretty likely we have a typical winter. 1 hyped event that ends up severely disappointing and a heapful of pennies and nickles as we scratch our way to average snowfall. Safe bet.

The last real one was 1993 on the eastern edge of the state. Before that you had 1978, 1965, 1950, 1918, 1913, 1894, 1864. Actually 2004 pre Christmas dropped 20"+ across the western half of the state so arguably that was the last real big one.

WxBell's map actually looks quite a bit like the Dec '04 event, and/or winter of 1917-18. I'd give you both credit. Also, iirc, 2-14-07 was pretty big across OH? IIRC, models weren’t picking up on the storm until ~4 days out, which feels short-term today. I remember comparing the GFS vs. the NAM ad nauseum. The NAM solutions were typical clown maps and the GFS was it’s usual conservative self. With gulf lows, Central Ohio is always victim to the warm sector, but models never budged, keeping us all frozen/snow. Once my meteorology professors showed optimism, I was all in. ILN stayed rather conservative with a 8-12” forecast. They upped it to 12-15” with the blizzard warning the morning of. (The last blizzard warning for Franklin County). Snow started around 10am and by 4-5pm, ~5-6” fell before a few hour break. I regret not staying awak for the overnight show. Woke up Saturday morning to the most snow I’ve ever seen on the ground and in 1 storm; 20.5”.
