Anybody else catch this tidbit from the afternoon LWX disco?

SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/...
High pressure from the central U.S. will migrate eastward and
build in over the region on Friday and into Saturday, bringing
more October like temperatures to the region. A sharp shortwave
trough and upper jet will move over the area Friday night and
into Saturday morning, giving us another shot at showers.
Higher elevations along the Potomac Highlands may even be
greeted with some wet snowflakes given 850 temperatures do drop
below freezing. Conditions will trend drier the second half of
Saturday and into Saturday night with mainly clear conditions
and slightly below normal temperatures. We may finally get some
frost in some of our western zones Saturday night.

I read that earlier today.  I was there a week ago and it was 80F.  I chose the wrong week.  SMH.

4.5" of rain here in VA over the last 7 hours, forecast to go for another 3 hours.

I just moved here a few months ago. I grew up in San Diego and this is the most rain I have ever seen in my life.

Welcome to VA! :)

hopefully you will get to see some snow this winter as well

3.97 at 10:50 and still rain overhead. I did not think any of us around here would get close to 4 in. Especially not me. I am the Giancarlo Stanton of tacking on useless stats. It never rains or snows when I need it to but I come through when there's not much on the line.

I see over 200K people are without power in Central VA. NOT good! Hope you have a generator!

Thanks for sharing your observations! Good luck getting power back!

Welcome. Who knows when that will be. All it took was the second gust and boom, power went out. Lots of power outages across the state. VA Power map shows 234,380. I am with PGE coop, they do not have a map, so I have no idea when it will come back on. i'll turn on the generator when it settles down. Schools in the area are closed tomorrow because of storm damage and with it being Friday, probably will not be in that big of a hurry.

EDIT: VA Power updates every 15 minutes and is now up to 245,704. That went up quite fast!

I do not!

The lights were flickering for a few hours but power has stayed on. The winds stayed mostly to the south. Every county around mine was under tornado watch, but no major impacts except a ton of rain, lightning, and dead leaves all over the lawn.

Still getting some gusts but I think the worst has passed. Fingers crossed. Still raining.

I know it says southern Va, but some areas listed are not southern Va. Some are central Va.

Just went outside to collect some flying empty planters I forgot I had outside. Summer is officially over. What a refreshing air mass. It's actually chilly. Winds are probably gusting around 30 right now. I'm sure they will be some tree issues areas along 95 south and east.

My bad. I thought I read that you moved from Cali to Va. I figured it was east though with your winds finally ramping up. Here, it was just rain and I was seeing reports very near by with high wind gust, but nothing at my location. But a few minutes later it was like a switch was flipped and the winds started roaring and my power went out immediately. Going to wait and turn the generator on when I get up around 6:30, pretty sure there still will be no power. It's already late, so I figure why bother. Frig will last till then.
