HRRR looks exceptionally promising. 21Z SREF plumes and what I think the 00Z NAM will show...is a sleet and freezing rain mess. Warm nosed big time. The warm nose looks like a pinocchio nose at 12Z...but at 9z and 15z shows the zero isotherm at 750 so the duration of the mixed precip may be limited. However, I don't think there remains any doubt, that warm nose is coming. Note, the warm nose should make its presence known by watching the Mt. Lyn Lowry station at 6000 feet hit 32. Right now it is at 27 and still slowly dropping suggesting the mixed precip is still hours away.

cold air aloft
Just did the Canton to Maggie Valley drive home from work. Word of advice, if you don't have to drive in Haywood County, avoid it. Cars slld off the road everywhere. It is beautiful out there and the snow is still thumping. Good luck to everyone for a big thump and may we avoid the evil warm nose.
