There were pockets of color, but a lot of trees are just browning out. Many had quite a bit of leaf drop as already noted. Definitely a lot of disappointed tourists I am sure. Here are a few shots: Yep.. Summer came too early and left too late. The trees have been worn out this year. Noticed the oaks and tulip poplars dropping already even before the cool wx came in.
Met1985
Yeah the leaf season from Wisconsin to the mountains is a stark contrast. At least the cold air has arrived finally. Temp down to 37 degrees already. I'm sure this is very refreshing to everyone here.
Hvward
GFS & CMC want to lock in freezing 850mb temps on Friday for some in WNC. 0z CMC actually has Asheville at -2 degrees c as the main precip moves in. Euro doesn’t really have as much CAD so it will be interesting today to see if that CAD signature strengthens.. or fades away.
Met1985
Temp down to 27 degrees this morning. Refreshing here in the mountains.
Hvward
Temp down to 27 degrees this morning. Refreshing here in the mountains. It feels good! On a side note. Notice Hurricane Willa has strengthened to a Catagory 4 storm and will hit Mexico.. then modify itself and reform as a subtropical low in the Gulf that affects us by the end of the week. That’s where we want our storms coming from this year to have a solid winter!

eyewall
A few more shots from my foliage hunt. These are enhanced some but not over the top. The views are nice despite a more lackluster year: Note: Aerials were taken via launching from US-221 at a pulloff. It is not legal to launch along the parkway.
calculus1
Fantastic photos, eyewall. I particularly like the second one -- the Viaduct with Hawksbill in the background. Thanks for sharing!

The color is there but much more uniform than most years. In particular, the bright reds are missing.
Met1985
Great shots eyewall. Things are slowly starting to turn down here in the central mountains finally.
Met1985
The short term pattern for the next 7 days looks good for average or below average temps with frequent precipitation and possibly some snow. All in all a much better pattern for Fall than what yall have seen down here.

Yeah I took a railroad job up in Wisconsin. I'm a freight train conductor up in Wausau Wisconsin to be exact. I'm trying to get back home but it has been a very grueling task. I'm back currently because both my grandmother and my grandfather just passed away... So I'm trying to be as patient as possible but I need to get back.

Tyler Penland
3k NAM looks like a 33° and rain kinda day Friday. Very borderline for the higher elevations to see a wet snow. Guess we'll see how it plays out. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

You might want to take a drive up to Beech Mountain during the event.
Met1985
Well I'm off fellas. Its was a crisp frosty morning with a low of 33 degrees. Hopefully I can get back before Christmas. Until the next time may the weather continue to grow colder and the flakes start to fly. 5
nrgjeff
Maybe it's just late. Something may have gone awry for reds in the mountains. Some reds are trying down here in town; however, note I'm also in another state Tenn. Thank you @eyewall and @Met1985 for some reports up there. Met I'm sorry for your loss. May some fall leaves bring at least some sliver of cheer. I'm hopeful mid-mountain to near valley will be good this year. A Halloween week consolation works for me. Oh yeah, of course rain last Saturday and forecast clouds/questions this Saturday hampers viewing. Well, I guess that's why they call it a Sunday drive, lol!

FlatLander48
Outside of maybe this happening in mid January, this is absolutely the worst weather. This is "go outside and instantly become sick" weather.

I divided zero into 100 to see how many years here it would take you to equal your one-year Vermont snowfall. Answer: ∞
