Major Hurricane Florence: STORM MODE THREAD

Everybody is arguing over wind speed which is silly.  It's a BIG and POWERFUL storm and appears to be reorganizing a bit. The main threat is flooding/storm surge due to the extremely slow speed of the storm. Any winds over TS strength will be bad due to the soft moist soil. This is not going to be good and is going to be catastrophic in many ways.

The surge on western Pamlico Sound is approaching the major flooding level. It forced the evacuation of a local TV station.

So to sort out this direction discussion, West is 270 degrees, North is 360 degrees (or 0). NW would be halfway between at 315 degrees.  WNW would be halfway between W and NW, so 292.5 degrees.

So Florence is considered as moving NW because 305 degrees is closer to 315 (NW) than it is to 292.5 (WNW)?

Yes.  That and west, north, west, west, would be a bit much.

Lightning feed from radar scope does not support, could be wrong but those flashes are more than likely disruptions to the grid.  Sorry man, likely 5+ days down there dependent on inland flooding.

Could have been lol just wasn't the normal bright blue I'm used to seeing, I wish I had some light so I could show y'all this crazy wind. I tried to use cell phone light but not working too well. Florence looks more organized on the radar again.
