Record number of years with a September average temperature at or above 70 for places like EWR and LGA. Almost as warm as an average June. I was born in 92 and can't remember a single "fall-like" September. More like a lot of drier Junes.

A place like EWR had the record cold upper 40's on the 2nd followed by a late month heatwave and departure rebound. And then October was an epic torch. My first month in the city. Very warm water, less tourists, still fantastic weather. Never thought of September as a fall month, to me fall starts about 10/15 when we see more rapid changes with temps, foliage, and daylight. I know where you're going with that, but it may be surprising to note that the rate of daylight loss peaks in mid-September, at 2m40s/day (at my latitude... may vary +/- a couple seconds across the subforum). We're actually losing daylight more rapidly now than we will be during November and December.

First day of spring is peak gain, first day of summer around 0, first day of fall greatest loss, and first day of winter around 0.

Not understanding talk about a pattern change becoming apparent by end of the month. CFS has a +200m ridge for us during the month of Sept. on average. Last days of Aug. and LDW look AN. In fact the CFS does not budge till Feb. with this +200m which is INSANE and obviously wrong, but by how much and when/where? The next 5 months can't be +5 to +10 can they?????? Will anxiously await your predicted record heat the last 10 days of the month before I worry about +10 for next 5 months
