Yeah locally here in the mountain valley ASOS a 40-degree diurnal change isn't all that impressive.  They can happen in any dry air mass.  Even in the winter we can be -20F in the morning and 20F in the afternoon.  

The real big ones are usually after dry weather in March/April or Sept/Oct...a great radiational cooling night followed by compressional warming during the day from winds moving down the mountain slopes and heating the valley.  That's when we see the 45-50F type ranges.  A hard freeze followed by 70F in the afternoon type stuff.

It's true.  

Average highs are mid-80s at BDL in July so it seems fairly normal for summer.  

I don't know, I'm just jaded after last week and the hottest 6-day mean in a very long time.  

It feels amazing out right now, just normal no humidity summer warmth.
