the_other_guy
Big difference in cost and time between protective dune systems and the proposed barrier. Mandatory higher building codes and more barriers near tunnels is the way to go. Why should 50 year old houses in Port Washington take the brunt for protecting new developments at a Domino Plant in Hipsterville? These are the complicating human questions coming in the future. bluewave
The UK drought is showing up on the satellite. This is the driest June 1-July 16 since at least 1961 in the UK. Look at how the UK is turning brown after the lack of rainfall (Photo source:@metoffice) #Summer2018 #ukheatwave pic.twitter.com/McubDTZI3c 6:27 AM - 18 Jul 2018

bluewave
Enhanced clean up this week for the local landscape specialists. The trees seemed to drop more leaves than usual with the weekend storm following the recent drought stress. There is also quite a bit of bark and broken small branches lying around. A few large bird nests also blew out of the trees.

I just spent the last hour cleaning up exactly that on campus

I just spent the last hour cleaning up exactly that on campus The old rule living in Long Beach was to never park under a sycamore. Those trees were in really bad shape even before Sandy. Many of them had large sections that were bare. Even a strong sea breeze would cause small branches to break off on parked cars. The city fell behind in the tree maintenance in the years before Sandy. But all the saltwater root damage was the final straw for most of them to get cut down. Long Beach still doesn't look the same to me with all the open space where the large trees used to be.

Why was this directected at me like I've been on here for days posting about how bad it's going to be? It's been a lot wetter West of the Hudson river. Just like in Winter, it's very hard for the entire sub-forum to experience the same practical weather.

A number of times ISP or OKX beat EWR in seasonal snowfall and snowfall departures. But EWR often gets more summer rainfall than ISP and OKX. An obvious exception to this was the historic August 2014 deluge at ISP. August 2011 > August 2014.

Near the castle along the 79th st transverse through Central Park. The last photos on the site below were taken in 2013. So you are looking at 5 years of growth on top of that. http://www.weather2000.com/ASOS/NYC_ASOS.html

MJO812
Not sure if anyone on here were on the forums back in 2010 but that christmas thread was epic. The emotions of people while tracking the storm was insane. The GFS and Euro had the storm for 9 runs in a row until it lost it and brought it back Christmas Eve and day. http://forums.accuweather.com/index.php?showtopic=24320

bluewave
Boxing Day in 2010 was our last major KU in December. Much more backloading to the winters since then. December 2000 to 2010 was unsurpassed with so many major early season events in an 11 year period.

LongBeachSurfFreak
I saw a fairly big shark (6’) break the surface and swim though a wave earlier.
