Tired of the mentally ill sympathy card that is given out. Scumbag. Mental illness is an issue for millions of people across the country less than .0001% of them shoot people. Fuk him

I"m not saying I'm giving him a sympathy card, he still knew what he was doing.

Kind of agree. And then we just keep piling more and more meds into them. I think proper health and nutrition would solve a lot of these mild/moderate mentally ill cases too. idk...it just feels like we tackle so many issues bass ackwards.

Mental illness is a tough nut to crack.  A really good friend (lived together for years) had a brother who had mental health issues and could completely separate himself from reality with the right trigger.

The family would bring him to the local hospital when he would have these episodes and it was the hospital policy that he had to be admitted for 24 hours for observation.  He could be completely normal 98% of the time and then off the deep end the other 2%... including getting violent.  So this one night he starts to show signs that he would go into one of these episodes...the family brings him to the hospital and for some reason, the hospital cleared him to leave after seeing him.  Every other time they kept him for 24 hours of observation when this would happen.  But not on this night.

A couple hours later that evening after getting home from the hospital, he murdered his mom (my good friend and roommates mom as well, seeing as they were brother/sister).  The next morning he had no recollection of it at all when the State Police questioned him.  I was home when my friend got that phone call and I'll never forget that moment in my life, when someone found out their sibling killed their mother.  That was about the saddest funeral you could ever think of.  And all the while, everyone asking why the hospital released him when every single time before that it was a mandatory 24 hour stay.  Needless to say, that hospital's insurance company paid up as if they just followed their own policy of observation period, my friend's mother would still be here.

How do you combat that?  No idea because what if in that mental state, the police were called and he killed a police officer or multiple people?  He obviously didn't want to kill his mother, he loved his mother, but he was completely detached from reality at that point in time.

The data is all out there if people wanna look/research ... There was a huge shift in our culture, several decades back and ..well, either the majority of all people, or the people they elected ( I suspect the latter) were no longer willing to fund asylum healthcare any longer.

The whole spectrum of mental health, from detection to diagnosis, management to logistics has suffered since for a lack of sufficient funding.

It's amazing THAT isn't placed under the popular microscope ... nearly so much as we do the drama that cracks off at the other end of the perpetrator's gun. When so much of it .. really could have been, by a based canvas of awareness and proactive response to the collective, moral obligation to the civility we are [supposed to] serve... been prevented,

There it is. Essentially, the fault of the collective society that demonstrated greed and providence over wealth before yet another concern that deals with public health - go f'n figure.

Let's make America great again, eh?

Sad story and so many like it....whether it’s murder, physical, or mental abuse. We are so quick to throw the next prescription med at someone (billions of dollars at stake which is a separate issue) but we often neglect their basic human needs. It is obvious and simple to many but some need that extra attention just to get by on a daily basis....and I don’t know what the answer is.

While mental health awareness has increased, mainly because of tragedies (Spade and AB’s suicides for example), we still have a long way to go considering many people suffering from mental illness do not have the resources for assistance. No insurance, no help. And those that do have the financial/insurance resources take many years to find the ‘right’ combination to live a decent life. They struggle immensely beforehand, and there’s collateral damage until they do....lose relationships, struggle in school, lose work, abuse alcohol and drugs to cope....leads to more crime, homelessness...these are the TRUE ‘forgotten people’ of America.

Putting the blame on societal greed seems overly simplistic.  The de-institutioning movement was also fueled by medical specialistas who opined that it would allow clients to re-enter society as productive members.  Unfortunately, the follow-up was underfunded (societal greed was indeed a factor) and the crucial halfway houses triggered mongo NIMBY-ism.  Thus, within a year or two of Augusta "freeing" most residents of AMHI, the city had to spring for a million or so to have tall screening installed on both sides of the high bridge, to deter suicides.  The patients' rights movement, a good thing all in all, also had unintended consequences, as those with mental issues could and did refuse meds and therapy at will, sometimes with violent outcomes.

They didn't want to spend the money - that is intrinsically an act of fiduciary reclamation ... Some may believe that's presented agenda before the alter of virtuosity, but for me ... I doubt that shift was totally virtuous - it is what it is... we'll leave it at that.

Look, it's greed via indirection.  No one was freezing programs, then ...pocketing the money - if that's the simplicity you have in mind.  The economic machinery has many cogs, and the meshing of those cogs ... wanted the funds allocated elsewhere - do the math on where and why.  Fine, it is what it is...  But usually, the incentive of attacking social programs is because sectors of society don't want to part company with their money - that is inherently a process of greed.  So ..ironically, in a way you are right - the motivating part that is, it is simple...

As far as the re-entering society as protective this or that... Yeah, not hard to see that's the typical tactic, a beguiling mantra that's really designed to get to a goal by manipulating.   The argument doesn't add up logically for me. To say 're-entering society as productive members', as though that were a positive re-course?  Recourse for what, for whom?  People that talk to dogs that ask them to shoot up people in parked cars?  No...that would have to mean the entire scientific sphere of mental health acted in shocking incompetence.  That's not what happened...

Did WU get rid of their METARs recently? TWC destroyed that site. What a shame.

I did notice that on my map on the WU app that there is no longer any airport ASOS temperatures that I can click on to get the official obs from. Idk if this is just some setting on my app that needs to be changed or if everyone is having this issue. Is anybody else not getting the airport ASOS on the WU temperature map?

I noticed the number of stations on the wundermap has been halved.

Yup.  ASOS stations are gone.  Only PWS seem to be left

Wundermap had been unstable for me on multiple devices for years. As Bob said...unusable.

Those old archived airport obs were great and easy to search.

I think I'm about done sending my wx station data there. I'll be part of CWOP and that's it. After 13 years they finally lost me.

That was the big reason to use the site as well.  Where do we go for archived data now?

They have Nov 1950 in there for CON so that's a pretty decent archive. Must be similar to WU.

I've tried to use that site but have taken the time to get used to the interface.  It's clunky to me.

Select MA ASOS

1) Select TAN...add selected
2) scroll down for Raw METAR
3) pick date
4) leave UTC
5) chose tab delimited
6) leave what is highlighted
7) get data

Just noticed they have the 5 min obs too. Friggin sweet.

But this is the clearest, cleanest air I’ve seen since the onset of anthropogenic GW and the cocktail of deliciously toxic air quality concerns that come along with it…

so clear in fact, those ‘lighter’ grayish tints you see smeared about the land mass ?  That is humanity sprawl - …seriously, you can make out the greater urbane footprint of Boston… and follow I-93 N into Concord NH and Manchester. … You can make out Worcester, Providence…  Springfield…down to Hartford, and the Capital District of Eastern NYS… and certainly NYC!

No wonder the first astronomers to focus upon Mars thought they saw canals and believed there was a civilization there…

Also it's much slower, both opening and moving around the site.  TWC seems to have bizarro-Midas touch.  Instead of gold, what they touch turns to &*$#.

I don't get any SPECIs when I view the ORH data...not sure if I did something wrong or if they don't show them even though the selection at the bottom claims to.

They must have just gotten rid of the METARs on the wunderground. They still have the hourly obs archived, but they are not in METAR format and they are missing weather conditions...which obviously sucks.
I gave up on mobile weather underground. Local stations don't update, forecast is days old. Lots of complaints on playstore
