Gonna lower my call for MLI to 96 for tomorrow and Mon.  Looks like a robust cu field should pop by afternoon again tomorrow and shave a degree or two off the max potential.  Heat domes that have robust cu fields are usually pretty meh with max temp potential, and this is no different.  You know you have a legit heat setup when nary a fragmented cu pops up by 3pm.

F that, sounds like misery.

Well from the "it can always be worse" side of things, I checked to see what the heat index was there at midnight on 7/14/1995.  The answer?  111F.  That is almost unimaginable and it's no wonder that that heat and lack of an effective protocol by the city at that time resulted in several hundred deaths.

No wonder why so many people died back then. There was no escaping it.

MSP has a temp of 86 and a heat index of 92 at 1am.

Still fairly breezy there too.  I can't see them dropping below the low 80s at this rate, but their low temp may not hold all through the 17th.

Just dropped to 80 here at ORD after sitting at 81/82 the last several hours.

Looks like a low of 78

With highs a bit warmer today and winds staying up a bit again, reasonable shot they don't drop below 80 tonight... or if so, it's at like 5:45 am right before the diurnal rise resumes lol.  But it's probably all for naught anyway as that frontal passage tomorrow evening leads to the daily min occurring then.

The current low of 78 will break the record of 77 (1984) for today.

Yeah some thick cirrus out this way as well has knocked a degree off the pace of yesterday.  93-94 probably the way to go now at MLI.  DVN played it well, as they were never overly impressed by this heat wave.  Basically just an AOA 90 stat padder of a heat spell.  Looks like we may have to wait till July to get a chance at something more impressive, as the rest of this month looks cooler after Monday.
