How did you fare? Looked like so nice velocity reading around McMurray. I had great thunder and lightning some moderate rain but hardly any wind. I was just north of it.

.
About the same where I was at, but I was near Wal-Mart at the time. Of course, the radar showed a nice blotch of red go right over my apartment, but I wasn't there at the time to witness it.

Although we probably wont break the record for warmest May,( Top 5 possibly ) another record we look to smash is for HDD.

Personally I think HDD and CDD better encapsulate how warm or cold the individual months of Sept-May are.

Right now our HDD for May will likely stay at 20, which is way way below normal. In fact I've yet to find an HDD below 40 since 1900.

I remember watching Joe's forecast as a kid in the 70's as far back as I can remember.  I remember him always using the aviation technical jargon, such as cloud ceiling, etc.   no other TV weather man did that back then.  I was just talking to someone the other day  about him reminiscing the old Pittsburgh news people.  RIP.

Interesting setup this evening, with an initial line pushing SE, but then more storms quickly redeveloping to the west moving ENE.

Not suprised with the flash flood warnings

Im always so fascinated and yet so confused with storms like tonight. I never understand the dynamics that cause the complex movements of thunderstorms like tonight.

Impressive Rainfall totals.

I was on the northern edge. Picked up a little over an inch this evening but most areas south of me were crushed and north of me had little.

That area in general (Greensburg \ Latrobe) seems to be a relative hotbed for tornado activity. There must be some orographic or other micro climate things going on.
