buckeye
1 hour ago, buckeye said: Definitely does NOT feel like a severe threat is on the table locally regardless of having a tor watch and whatever the parameters and radar show. That stuff moving in from western OH would seem a lot more ominous if it weren't 60 degrees, mostly cloudy and still soaking wet from a recent downpour here. Will be interesting to see if that line stays together or begins to weaken as it approaches, my gut is going with option 2. ...as I listen to the sirens outside my office.... Quincy
In terms of discrete cells with potential for long residence times, I'd focus on southeastern MO/eastern AR/western TN/southwestern KY. Looking at mesoanalysis, it appears that deep layer shear vectors remain out of the WSW to W, creating favorable angles with the cold front. Reference 850/500mb crossovers, as this combined with moderate buoyancy, steep low to mid-level lapse rates and more than adequate shear, will likely support discrete to semi-discrete convective modes over the next few hours. Farther north, storm modes are messier and the mid to upper level wind fields are more unidirectional. For the northern portion of the threat zone, the best shot at severe hail and/or isolated tornadoes should focus near the warm front.

mayjawintastawm
And the big Xenia tornado was 44 years ago today! (nice reference in the ILN AFD earlier this afternoon). I read a book about it when I was in 6th grade and just starting as a weather nerd, and scared the crap out of myself. BTW- my daughter was under today's cell just a few minutes before it was tor warned, and said it felt really weird- two minutes of intense hail, and then nothing.
