Newark's storm total rainfall has reached 3.07", which includes 2.63" today. Newark is approaching its daily rainfall record for April 16.

Other storm total figures include: LGA: 2.36" and NYC: 2.79". Both those locations have also received 2.00" or more rain today.

That 3.07" at Newark is currently at the 6th biggest 2 day April rainfall total on record and still raining.

That puts Newark in 6th place for the most precipitation between 2/1 and 4/16. Very impressive heavy precipitation pattern here since February.

#2...17.34....1984

#3...16.39....2010

#4...16.13....1953

Final storm total rainfall of 3.02"

Plenty of street/basement flooding in my area.

Garbage cans were floating in the backyard, basement flooding, and flooding in the garage past my ankles. And then suddenly bright sunshine.

Would be a very active summer if this pattern continues.

It will be interesting to see if the Euro and JMA are correct about about the 2nd big Western ridge summer in a row. That scenario would leave open the chance for some portion of the Eastern US to experience an active storm pattern. Last summer the storm track was displaced just to our west.

I think this summer will be much more active then last summer and the last few summers overall.

This time back in 2002 we were into our great April heat wave, high temps at my station from the 16th thru 19th were... 91,96,91 and 91. Certainly installed the ac earlier that year.

Remember it well. The end of a non winter and no snowcover anywhere certainly helped sustain the heat...   Sometimes big heat is possible in April especially with bare trees and dry ground...

Man that winter was bad...That was the least snowy winter I've ever recorded, just 5.5" the entire season.

The sun angle is plenty strong to get it done. Part of our problem lately is what we consider a blessing in winter, thick snow cover a couple hundred miles upflow. The sun just is not able to help warm the airmasses crossing all that snow cover.

It would be nice if it was 15-20 degrees warmer outside right now, I am done with this colder weather already. Even a fall/winter weather lover like myself eventually wants the warmer temperatures to settle in.

The record MJO and strat warming event flipped our pattern to colder. Funny how the MJO never missed an opportunity to hit the warm phases between October and February. Since then, it has found a way to miss the warm phases every time.
