gravitylover
1 hour ago, bluewave said: The August 2011 deluge was my heaviest rainfall total. Long Beach picked up 10" of rain around 12 hours. Much of that fell over a shorter period of time. Almost everyone with a basement in Long Beach experienced flooding. Luckily, the terrain is flat with no river flood plain nearby. So no people, houses, or cars were swept away by rushing flood waters. LB basement garage flooding. Notice the floating freezer behind the garage door windows. Growing up on the south shore I always wondered why so many homes in places like Long Beach and the Rockaways were built with downhill sloping driveways into below grade garages like that. At least if the garage was at grade it wouldn't direct rainfall or extreme tidal effects into it, the living space of the house would also be raised to protect it when the water came up. I always wondered the same thing. The developers had to know of the flooding risks from heavy rains and storm surges. Everyone in Long Beach with a driveway like that flooded out in Sandy. Most of the furnaces and water heaters were ruined since they were on that basement level.
Dan76
I wonder what this October will bring weather wise. Seems like that's the norm for the 2000s
Stormlover74
From Upton Check this out! Our weather balloon took a short trip across eastern Long Island tonight before bursting just south of the office a few miles offshore. How high was the balloon when it burst? 102,801 feet! bluewave
It's official. Asheville breaks the all time monthly record for rainfall. The total of 14.68 inches is nearly an inch more than the previous record of 13.75 set in August of 1940. #avlwx #ncwx pic.twitter.com/HLdFhCy9to 2:38 AM - 1 Jun 2018
doncat
Some final spring stats from my station... A cold Mar and Apr more than made up for the warm May as the season finished with a -1.0° departure and 11th coolest in 42 years. Precip totaled 16.31" and was 8th wettest. Snowfall was 28.4" and of course was a record.
bluewave
At least there was someplace with more rainy days in May than our area. https://icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/nature_and_travel/2018/05/29/it_has_rained_every_single_day_of_may_in_reykjavik/ According to the Iceland Met Office, there has been some precipitation every single day of the month of May in Reykjavik. This is a record amount of rain for May. The total amount of precipitation so far is 125.3 millimetres.
AfewUniversesBelowNormal
Just what I expected.. you have to go back before 2009 and to 2004 to have a -PNA in this time period (May 27-June 6)

You have to wonder if this is a multi-year event. It doesn't seem correlated to ENSO, there are some Arctic ice overlaps but I'm not sure that's completely it as the Atlantic ridge seems to be more dominant right now as the cause. iggier
Long-time lurker, first-time poster. I too cannot get on the board unless I go to https://www.americanwx.com/bb/discover (a link I found by viewing a cache of this site) and then logging on. This applies to PC and iPhone/iPad (don't have an Android device). If I don't log on, almost all clickable options return me to the fatal error. But I see others visiting the site as guests, so some people are able to get to the site. Strange. At the same time, the site looks different, so perhaps a recent update fubared it? Inserting the standard address https://www.americanwx.com/bb/ in a browser returns the following: Fatal error: Call to undefined method IPS\Login::forms() in /home/admin/public_html/bb/system/Theme/Theme.php(824) : eval()'d code on line 1089 Is there a way to inform a site administrator? Same thing same error message, for the last 3 days at least. I finally got on by going to Alan Huffman's twitter page (to see if there was any news on this site), and clicked on his link to the model page and it worked. That got me to the model center and then I was able to get to the forums. Problem might be fixed now because I just clicked on my regular link here and it opened ok. The primary site link - https://www.americanwx.com/bb/ - works for me only if I am already logged on. I can get to the site using the Twitter link you noted, or the link I posted earlier, but unless I log on, clicking on forums and other site places returns me to the error message. CIK62
FWIW, the Rossby Wave Train in he past two weeks has become decidedly hotter for JJA and now S also. That trough in s.e. Canada disappears. The whole US and western Canada are 1 to 3 degrees F AN.
