Disc
About 9" and some change for a total south of Roanoke this morning. Roanoke Airport only received 1.7" total. I was barely on the edge of the bands last night, but it was really putting it down. Bluefield, WV received 17", bringing their monthly total to 32" for March! PackGrad05
I never saw flakes here in Willow Springs. Just a cold rain. Went to bed at 11PM and got up at 6AM so I guess it couldn't fallen between those times but there was no evidence of it this morning.

calculus1
Well, the WSW conditions never materialized, but we did get about 1/2 an inch of sleet. It was mostly gone by 8:00 AM. Fun little novelty of a system. I'm very jeaulous of Bluefield and Wytheville, though. Sent from my Alcatel 6055U using Tapatalk
mjwise
Sick cut off with this system. NWS Blacksburg ended up with 11.6" and just 30 miles to the northeast the Roanoke airport got less than 2. Melting quickly here though. Over 20" of snow this March in Blacksburg. View this morning at 8am:

kvegas-wx
Drove up to Stuart early this morning past Hanging Rock and up HWY 8. The tree damage was horrendous. Crews must have been out all night last night. Multiple trees had fallen across the roads and branches everywhere. I think I'm done with winter now. mjwise
The ratio ended up being 11.6" of snow from 1.21" of liquid here, so almost exactly 10:1. Bluefield got 17" from 1.66" liquid. Most of the Kuchera maps I saw posted were quite a bit off and suggested much lower ratios, I think.

griteater
Regarding snow ratio for the areas of heavy snow in SW VA, it may have been a case where the water content was fairly high, but there were a lot of high quality dendrite snowflakes being produced which pile up more efficiently due to their lacy structure. High snow ratios would be seen when you have the combination of 1) the full air column being cold (say low to mid 20’s or lower thru the column) <AND> 2) a lot of dendrites are being produced (high levels of vertical motion in the dendrite growth zone)
