RichmondTarHeel
Never been so excited to see sleet before. Moderate sleet/rain here now. Heavy precip just to my South around Manassas. Wonder if we can get some snow mixed in? Edit: In fairfax, for those on mobile.

Mrs.J
29.7/27 snow still coming down up here. Reports of accidents all over Frederick. And people saying to stay off of I-70. Regretting not telling my husband to take my car. I have a CX-5 AWD. He has a MX-5 and had some issues heading out this morning.

HighStakes
Had to run some errands. Roads are terrible. Currently in a very heavy band. Over an inch an hour rates. Temp down to 26. 3 inches already. This is not your typical daytime march snowstorm.

Yeah, heavier rain has too much kinetic energy I think which can get released as heat when it hits the ground. Light rain/drizzle are best for accumulating freezing rain. weathercoins
Sleet has begun in downtown DC [Foggy Bottom area]. Based entirely on the obvious pinging off my 9th floor window, though. EDIT: Also based on being able to see the sleet bounce off the window now, too.
Jebman
I realize that 99 percent of the snow we are supposed to get in Dale City is coming with the 2nd wave, NOT THIS ONE. I understand that very well, and I also am at total blissful peace with my climo and location 50 feet above mean sea level. With that said, however, it IS true that we are going thru an awful, awful amount of liquid qpf with all of this steady moderate to outright heavy rainfall right now lol. Many cheers to those enjoying snow accumulations right now!!!!!

I know you know but think of cold faucet water over an ice cube. the ice cube melts. Too much warmer liquid to freeze on the surface of the ice cube.
