Fozz
I didn’t think we’d be in the game this late, but if it’s going to snow in April, then we might as well take what we will get.

Maybe because I haven’t lived through such an event so late in April. It's super rare but it can and has snowed in April. It takes a rare anomalous pattern but every once in a while it can happen. Not saying it does now but I'm also not saying it's something to be 100% dismissed just because it's April.

If it plays out exactly as depicted on that map, I think even the cities can get wet snow out of that, with 10”+ for Parr’s ridge. But there’s no way that happens, right? I think you can score something with this. In fact you and a few others might be the only ones. But it will be fun to track for all of us regardless. Snow tv would be a win for me. WVclimo
Looking at COOP records as well as the local airports when they still reported snowfall measurements, the last measureable snow I found in this area in April was in 2000, on April 9. Not sure what happened in that event as I wasn't here, but the Sharpsburg, MD report shows a high of 75 that day, a low of 32, 1.15" of precip, and an inch of snow. This followed highs of 79 and 76 the two previous days. Before that, MRB reported 1.9" in 1996, and 0.4" in 1990. The last decent amounts were in 1987 with 4.5" and 1982 with 3.0". Other years with accumulations in April there were 1970, 1971 and 1972; 1959 and 1961, 1935 and 1928. March 31,2003 dropped 2" here, which is really the most recent snowfall this late in the year. Still, 15 years since then. Pretty rare event if it pans out.

I don't remember any serious impacts as it mostly accumulated on grass and not roads. So it can happen. I just remember that it was really bizarre. It actually snowed the better part of the day across the WMA but didn’t stick until Dulles/Leesburg area. Now somewhere else I saw a reference to a 1986 snow about April 25. I think that was moisture associated with a very strong cold front. I was in Burke at the time. It flipped in early evening so sun not issue. It really cranked and had minor accumulation. But just made all the more unusual since so damn late in April

AfewUniversesBelowNormal
It's snowed in May in the last 15 years. In the early 2000s, it was snowing at least once every April. It's not too uncommon
