Just spiked up to 35K out in MoCo.  Was at 20K at 11.

Just had my strongest gust here in Clarksburg; 62.6mph.  Three trees down so far (in my mostly wooded lot).  One medium, healthy black cherry and two large tulip poplars that had compromised cores upon inspection.

Looks like we broke the Sandy number for state power outages...now at 162,487 customers.

Anyone know how many lost power during the derecho? Honestly, Sandy wasn't even that bad at my house. I feel like we've had some cold fronts and winter storms and other tropical systems come through that have either compared or even exceeded the winds with Sandy.

If we can't all agree that this is a rare and very significant wind event then we will never agree on anything.

Only way to beat this would be a tropical system landfalling west of us and hauling I think. The much fantasized Bay cane track, though even that would be shorter lived but stronger.
