The March Lion Storm

Ended with 17.2” here, Highest totals in wny were 20-23” range. Heaviest/wettest snow I’ve ever shoveled. If this was 1:20 ratios we would be talking 40”+ totals. We’ve been killing it here with synoptic in March. This March with 20+”, last March with 30”+, March 2014 with a blizzard and 20-25” amounts

You always have some interesting analogies.

This is our third disappointment this winter. You know with all the disappointments and busts Toronto goes through, that a majority of the subforum doesnt go through, we deserve a couple of consolidation winters, haha. Maybe it's our geographic location? This could also be said about some thunderstorms too.

I think it most certainly is Toronto's geographic location - it's just not a snowy location compared to pretty much everywhere surrounding it. As Canuck has said, if you want 10"+ storms every winter, best to relocate.

Talk to the posters in northern lower MI. Or Cyclone/Hawkeye.

And yes, it is our geographic location. We live in a weather shadow. Appalachians to our east, Escarpment to our west, windward side of the lake. And add climate change to the mix. It's pretty bleak. Things aren't going to get better.

I'd also add that Toronto has always seen less snow than pretty much every community surrounding it due to, as you said, us living in a weather shadow. It's ironic that we find this frustrating while most other people in the GTA consider it a blessing and a selling point for living here.

WNY is same way. The northtowns have triple the amount of people the southtowns have because they receive less snow. The difference in total snowfall in buffalo northtowns to southtowns depending on location is 100" per year.

Pics from yesterday morning....when a 5-1 snowfall of 5" welcomes March, you get awesome pastejob scenes. This was only my 4th largest snowstorm this winter, but it was the best pastejob since Nov 2015.

Its easy to forget that snow weenies are in the minority.

But I stand firm that there are closet cases everywhere. I had three....THREE...separate people at my office yesterday who have been complaining about winter for months, including griping about snow just the day before, comment how "beautiful" and "breathtaking" the snow scenes were. I dont think the general public hatred of snow is as strong as it appears, its just the thing to complain about.

Congrats on the big snow.  It doesn't seem quite fair, though, when the big lake effect areas are also lucky enough to get a huge synoptic dumping.  Mother Nature needs to do a better job of spreading the wealth.  :)

Yeah 25.4" highest total in WNY. ENY had some 40" totals though. Crazy!

Great pics.  I like the powdery snows more than the wet stuff but a plaster is nice every so often.
