The March Lion Storm

Bizarre storm. It has completely stopped snowing here, roads and most surfaces have completely dried out. Still under 25-30dBz returns but not a flake in sight.

Relative humidity is currently 55% so I guess that explains it. 36F temp and 21F dew... ain't gonna snow like this.

Dry air crushing the northern edge, what helped us cool is hurting you guys and those who were north of 69 in MI.

I was driving home on the 401, the snow would start to come down at a decent clip and then suddenly it would stop, then pick up again, then stop. Really weird.

I'm going to bed soon and I'm pretty confident my 2" forecast is going to bust. Probably a coating-1".

That 18z NAM from the other day may have gotten many areas in SEMI and SW Ont. wrong, but it'll probably end up right for us. :lmao:

Snow beginning to pick up in intensity in downtown Toronto and starting to stick on grassy surfaces.

Finished with 5" of very very heavy wet snow. Im now at 59.7" on the season. The lowest ratio snowstorm Ive seen in years. Some melting from the ground up but the steets are rutted with slushy snow. Absolutely gorgeous scenes with the north facing side of every tree plastered. Unfortunately I lost a few small branches on my fir tree

About 4" here SE of Cleveland.  A very wet snow, just isn't accumulating efficiently enough to see huge totals.  It's been an impressive storm though, going on 5 and a half hours straight of moderate to briefly heavy snow here with impressive wind/some blowing snow, and should be another couple hours of decent conditions here.  Very close to 100k customers out in northern OH right now due to the wet snow and wind.

A couple more vids I took a couple hours apart. Best storm of the season in my opinion. The heavy snow + wind combination is much more interesting than piles of snow on the ground. Even though it did accumulate a decent amount.

That folks is a genuine bust. Looks like what? 1/2" of the ugliest looking slush out there. And the snow has stopped after a couple of hours.

Yup, huge disappointment - looks like, in terms of the model forecasts, it was more like "March lyin' " than a March Lion.

Strangely, though, I'm not crushed about this. In Toronto you get used to busts like this, sort of like when the Blue Jays tease us into thinking that this is going to be the year they actually win the World Series again.

You always have some interesting analogies.

This is our third disappointment this winter. You know with all the disappointments and busts Toronto goes through, that a majority of the subforum doesnt go through, we deserve a couple of consolidation winters, haha. Maybe it's our geographic location? This could also be said about some thunderstorms too.

Talk to the posters in northern lower MI. Or Cyclone/Hawkeye.

And yes, it is our geographic location. We live in a weather shadow. Appalachians to our east, Escarpment to our west, windward side of the lake. And add climate change to the mix. It's pretty bleak. Things aren't going to get better.

You really get a sense of how bad it could've been had the 18z NAM from a few days ago verified... probably would've been talking about millions of power outages just in the Midwest/Lakes.

Yes, you combine the snow with the winds that DC/Baltimore area are getting, it would have been one for the ages.

My storm total was 1.74" with 5.0" of snow. I estimate about an inch of that liquid was in the form of snow. Season total now 59.7" and this was the 4th largest snow of the season. At DTW, the 5.0" brought the season total to 57.7", just 0.8" away from yet another season cracking the top 20.

Took some pics on my drive to work. It was amazing scenery. Will post later.
