SchaumburgStormer
Small flake size, but they are falling in clumps. As cyclone said, they seem to be shattering on impact, but not quite enough yet to see how they are piling up
cyclone77
Closing in on an inch in a bit over an hour's time. Pure rippage right now.
Radtechwxman
Def liking the prospects later this week. Think GFS might be warming too much. Should have a good enough snow pack to mitigate some warming. Still bone dry here. Temps in teens and dews in low single digits

Pouring smallish flakes now. +SN at DVN/MLI already. So glad you guys are finally getting some. Enjoy!
CoalCityWxMan
I know it was expected, but the onset of this was impressive. Went from nothing to SN in 4 minutes.
Radtechwxman
Saturation taking forever here. Dews aren't responding well. Hoping it happens soon!

cyclone77
Outside of the more enhanced bands for the first time, and it's considerably different. Pure sugar now. Hope we can get back under a band or two, as the stuff falling now is probably <10:1 LSR type stuff.
CoalCityWxMan
The hrrr is quite aggressive along a IKK-PNT-westward line
hlcater
We have 2.5-3.0" here and the back edge is weakening fast. Looks like an additional inch at best. We are going to fall well short of our expected 6." Big let down.
mimillman
Looks like the sweet spot is setting up between Peoria and I-80. Someone under that band will get 4-6"
Hoosier
Started snowing here a short time ago. Under a pretty nice band at the moment.
SchaumburgStormer
Stop me if you have heard this before... flake size blows, pure pixie dust. Picked up up a quick inch or so with better flake size, but back to the season long trend of garbage dust.
zinski1990
this whole winter has just been a letdown. Never seen this much cold air with no good systems to come in just crappy 1-3 inch clippers and shortwaves.
cyclone77
Looks like a good 1.5" so far here. Pixies continues. Unless we can get another enhanced band to get back in here we may fail to reach 3". EDIT: Several 5" reports out around Des Moines. The GFS ended up being correct all along, with the heaviest axis centered from Des Moines, to Galesburg, and on towards Pontiac.
hawkeye_wx
Absolutely dumping here right now.... heaviest snow of this winter so far... medium to large flakes. Update: 1.3 inches in last hour.
Hoosier
Hey folks, please try to keep complaint type posts in the banter/complaint thread. There's been too much of it leaking out into other threads, like this one. That other thread is there for a reason.
Geoboy645
Surprisingly got all the way down to -14 last night. We were only supposed to hit-5. That low was actually colder than any of our lows during the holiday's cold snap.

Chicago Storm
Has been snowing here a for few hours now. Flake size has been slightly better than pixie at best. Still looks good for 2-5" CWA wide, with probably some localized amounts near 6" near/just south of I-80.
ConvectiveIA
Closing out at about 5 inches, maybe 6 as there was some drifting. But I am downtown, could be more in house-y areas. Definitely seems like a low end warning criteria event
cyclone77
3.4" as of a bit ago. Should be able to crack the 4" mark with another hour or so left of snow.
Jackstraw
Still waiting here. That thin fgen band that came just north of me got absolutely chewed up by dry air. Hopefully this thing will still have a little umph as the main wave moves through.

hlcater
Came up with 4.6” a bit higher than the 4.1-4.2” CR area average, but they had a bit of a lull when I didn’t. Regardless this storm was kinda disappointing as we were shown to be the jackpot zone even until about 11 today. In fact it became evident that the band would set up south and the CAMs still didn’t budge. They died with their incorrect solution. The GFS and RGEM did the best with this event. cyclone77
4.3" here, which is the heaviest event of the season. A tad more than I thought we'd get so that's a plus. Nice daytime event. Looks like the NAMs were correct afterall in that there was a narrow band of heavier snows, but it misplaced it too far north. Nice 7-8" swath from central IA towards Pontiac IL. hawkeye_wx
My total snow is 4.4 inches, which I'm satisfied with, but it's on the low end of the expected range. The reason for this is the ratio was only 14 to 1. The liquid total of 0.31" was very close to the model average.
cyclone77
Radar estimated precip from the past 12hrs... EDIT: Oops, cutoff the precip scale lol. Blue is 0.5", and dark green is 0.25".
