What nyc sites need 10" to normal?

According to posters on this site, they have 18 inch season totals in the Bronx. Going with that, they need another 10 inches to get to normal. Central Park is below seasonal average as well.

There needs to be another 6 inch storm or several smaller events to get to normal for season.

Some of the measurements this year have been low, especially the LGA and JFK on 1/4. I had much more than the 8” JFK went with. I have 25.1” for the winter so I’m pretty much at normal anyway.

Those of us west and southwest of the city are at least a foot short.

I don't see why anyone should be concerned on February 4th whether or not they will be able to reach normal snowfall for the season when they are over 50 % there . Remember there are still at least 10 weeks available to reach 100 % - each one of those weeks have had storms of at least 6 inches in the past.

10 weeks is a bit generous but yeah we'll have our chances I'm sure.

Very wet period, fast flow and strong temperature gradient gives us plenty of storminess next 10 days including today. No snow however.

no snow at all next 10 days ? where are you talking about ? This sub forum covers a lot of landscape especially to the north of Middlesex County NJ

Seriously, in all honesty, more like 4 weeks. March is dicey even when its cold, let alone if it gets mild. It happens, yes, but usually in colder, snowier winters. The next two weeks is the prime time for snow. After that chances go down. And, no blocking...without that things are even tougher I would think.

Seriously - are you serious ? 4 Weeks ???? This hasn't been a colder snowier winter ? Aren't many areas in the tri-state  above average snow and below average temps so far ? Its never snowed in March or early April ? FYI in the past we have gone with basically no snow after Presidents Day and then in early April get a storm greater then 6 inches - 2003 comes to mind...…...April 7, 2003 - 7 inches in Central NJ

I am 55 years old and seen a lot of winters. I don't care what the rest of the tri state area has seen, in our area we are about a foot below average. April 2003? I was around for April 82. We have a chance for snow then sure. We have a chance for hurricanes every year too. Doesn't mean it will happen. If you want to believe we have 10 weeks of winter left by all means have at it. I hope you are right.  In this part of NJ, it has not been a particularly snowy winter. It has been cold, but so what? It has also been warm. C'mon, don't tell me this has been a great winter. It hasn't been a total dud, but it hasn't been impressive in our backyard. How do I know? No one is complaining much. See, the locals hate snow. Ask some. And they aren't feeling like we've taken a beating this year. Because we haven't. Now, some may say I'm an IMBY type. I am! I don't care what it does on LI or Atlantic City or Albany. I don't even care what it does in High Point NJ. If it ain't happening here, I'm really not terribly interested. This doesn't make your observations less valid or important. I just don't agree. Ya know, it snowed in October in 2011. That only happened twice in my lifetime here; and I remember the 73 event, if you could call it that. So you could argue that our snow season runs from late Oct through early April. But really, how much snow do we see Oct, Nov, or April? Or even Dec? Or even March? I remember almost a decade without snow in March. In fact, the weather has been so boring here of late I have time to write long answers here....anyway, point is, I don't really think we have a very good shot at another ten weeks of wintry weather. I'd bet against it, even in a heavy winter. Do I know the future? Of course not, and I'll be there reading your informative posts any time a storm looks promising. And I hope there will be one, or more!

I'm around your age too, what was the 73 event?

It was October 72 we had a trace of snow and then ended the season with 2.8 inches - remember it well...…was last year of High School for me that 72 -73 season - also the 0Z NAM is further west with the mid -week track - looks like today's system - another fast mover - tonights system will be out of here before midnight

Darn you're even older than me...look at us a couple old fools talking about the weather LOL...but I do look forward to your insights...you're right it was 72. And it was a mostly snowless winter, which was kinda rare then, even though we didn't have these monster blizzard we get today. IIRC there was a hurricane that year as well that devastated parts of PA.

And don't forget Nov 89 I think, which was the biggest snow of that winter, or maybe it was 88. I think it was 88, I was teaching my first year at a Catholic HS.

I believe it was October 1972 when I was in middle school, October 19th to be exact. There was also October 10th 1979 and October 4th 1987 just North of NYC

I don't remember 78-9 being that great, but of course 77-78 was something else....and forget about the 80's, just 3 standouts, April 82, Feb 83 and Jan 87 ( this was a wicked intense storm that took everyone off guard and stranded a lot of people ) I remember being on Hoes Lane and not being able to see where I was going...

I had to mention 78 -79 that featured the 1st President's Day Blizzard and most of the area ended up slightly above normal for the season

For some reason I don't remember the 79 storm, but I do recall the Feb storm of 78 which was 17 inches around here and no one remembered anything like it at the time. Did the 79 storm hit Middlesex County that hard?

It was 89.  88-89 basically had one snow event in early January and that was all.  89-90 the Thanksgiving event was all.  There were a bunch of near misses and busts in December too during the severe cold

Big busts in Feb 89 and Dec 89 too.

Bad time for snow around here, they found every which way to miss.

We're at average snowfall for the season even if a single flake doesn't fall for the rest of it.
