bowtie`
When I got to the pond this evening there was a little splotch of either virga or a cloud that the Sun was illuminating and making some rainbow colors. Hopefully you can see the color either above the car or the second tall tree from the right side. It was not much color but it was something... bowtie`
Another smoky sunset here. They only give low contrast, low color sunsets. Only interesting shot was one of only a minor technical issue. I was able to indirectly see the Sun while I was blocked direct path with the bill board. With the camera being three to four feet above the reflective surface (the water), I could see the Sun while not really seeing the Sun. Kinda cool. bowtie`
Best clouds were to the north when I went out to the pond this evening.
bowtie`
No reason to head to the pond with the horizon socked in, so I was able to just stay in the front yard this evening.
bowtie`
Departing systems is always a race between some clouds and no clouds. Well tonight the clouds had the track shoes on. On your mark, get set, go!... At the halfway point, it almost isn't a race...

bowtie`
The clouds were kind of out there to the west this evening. Had to go with the 24-70mm for the extra reach. This second image is only four minutes after the first. You can see just how quick the sunsets are getting already. This one also shows the smoke a bit better. bowtie`
Nice night out at the pond with it only being a little on the muggy side. When I got to the pond, the view to the south east was photogenic... As the Sun got lower into the Haze/smoke murk... The Sun dipping into another cloud layer way to the west... Here the Sun pops out of the distant cloud layer just before sunset. The Sun is really pink due to all the particulate matter in the way... I hoped there would be a red flash with the Sun sneaking out at the last second. Well there was but it was more orange rather than red... And way past late but I liked the distant cloud shadows and I ended up making the colors a little over the top in trying to make the shadows stand out better. It is what it is.... bowtie`
Tonight was strictly a 100mm night. There was only one cloud and it was way out there... At sunset... The orange... The red...
bowtie`
Kind of a plain night this evening with a contrail to muck the image up a tad... As I was walking to the car after calling it a night, there was some faint cloud shadows from the tops of the cells in Iowa and Missouri... bowtie`
I had high hopes for the sunset this evening. The only badnews/goodnews thing was the wind. Was fairly stiff so there was zero chance at any reflection shots. But that just meant that not using any filters allowed me to be more accurate on the color. The white when I got to the pond... Local sunset. As you can see, the west started opening up. Just what the doctor ordered... And now the color starts in earnest. The yellow... The orange... And last but not least, the red... bowtie`
Most of the time, contrails make me grind my teeth. Other times like this evening they can really add to the feeling of depth in an image... Early orange... Late orange... And some extremely late color with the 100mm. Strong magenta tint... sininenpoika
Very nice photos I see... I wonder if anyone knows the name of what I got here in my picture... it's kind of weird to me
bowtie`
^ A little more info might be helpful. Such as location, time of day and direction of image. To me is just looks like a nice sharp cut off moisture. While it might not be an every day occurrence, it is not weird or uncommon. At least in my mind. bowtie`
When I got to the pond this evening, this was one of my first images. I did not realize it till I got home and downloaded but there was some crepuscular rays going on close to the Sun. The glare prevented me from seeing them. Glad I took the image so I could *see* it... Had to attempt a reflection image, whether the water was going to cooperate or not... Max dynamics on the color. Just about the whole kitchen in this one. From magenta to red and orange and even a bit of yellow. Not to mention the blues... Started the day with crepuscular rays and going to end it with crepuscular rays also. These shadows are from well over the horizon as the come from the tops of cells in Iowa...
bowtie`
The edge of the ridge stayed north of me so I figured the sunset would be another dud. Well I was wrong. All the convection north of me spit out this one tendril of clouds due south and in just the perfect position for a perfect sunset.
bowtie`
Looking east north east when I got to the pond this evening... There was only one cloud sort of to the west. Actually it was more straight overhead but it was drifting to the west. 16mm was almost not wide enough... As that cloud transitioned to red... bowtie`
There was a chance that the back edge of the front would just make it far enough east to give me a colorful sunset so I had to be out there just in case. When I got to the pond, Still lots of clouds... What is that bright orb in the sky? Have not seen it in a number of days now... Managed to get a quick, brief red flash, nice... bowtie`
Here is something I do not do very often. A mid-afternoon daytime cumulus with a strategically placed clump of maple leaves... Back to the evening sunset colors, looking south east... Last of the color...
bowtie`
I most be living right. I was on the edge of the clouds pushing east. I was also on the edge of the clouds pushing in from the south. All that gave me an excellent sunset. The white when I got to the pond... The orange... And the red... bowtie`
I missed a day here. Life gets in the way sometimes. All of these are from 9-16. Was a busy day behind the viewfinder. Morning, noon and evening. Started off the morning with sun dogs/iridescence... Some of the sun dogs were rather vivid... At noon the lower levels started moistening up... The evening started off with a rather vivid sun dog also... Post sunset we started the color game. The yellow... The orange... And the red... For a long time I have tried to get a late, late post sunset with backscatter light with some high altitude still sort of in white. I came kind of close last evening. Was worth all the mosquito bites...
bowtie`
Last night was another colorful evening. Local sunset Post sunset looking south east Looking north east A vertical selection And last but not least, the red...
bowtie`
While last night was the race of clouds departing the area and the sunset, this evening was the race of clouds returning to the area and the sunset. Started with the yellow... On to the early orange... This is the kitchen sink of colors. A little bit of everything... And ending the night with the red... bowtie`
Looking south when I got to the pond this evening... The yellow looking west... I made a mistake this evening though. I thought the color was done and over with and started driving back home. By the time I got halfway home the sky to the north was going red, rather nicely. So I was only to catch the red slightly past peak from the front yard instead...
bowtie`
When I got to the pond this evening... A close-up with the 100mm of the gold color... Back to the 16-35 to see just how much the clouds are getting ripped apart by the breeze... What little red flash that there was this evening... bowtie`
Pre-sunset this evening... Early post sunset... Later post sunset...
bowtie`
This evening I got engrossed in a book at dinner. Did not think there would be any sunset possibilities. Well when I left the diner the sky was doing a nice visual yellow flash. By the time I made it home to grab the camera and car and get to the closest open western horizon only the last dregs of color was left. This is the best I could do... bowtie`
Not a lot of clouds out and about this evening. A cloud shadow with the 100mm... Same clouds shadow just a tick later and after a lens change to the 35mm... Later I got that horrible bruise color again...
bowtie`
The color was playing hide-n-seek behind the clouds this evening...
bowtie`
I do not know what causes it but October sunsets always seem rather amped up. Maybe it is just that I know the solid stratus of winter is soon around the corner. But until then I am going to enjoy these like I did this evening. Looking east when I got to the pond... The yellows of the pre-sunset... The oranges of post sunset... And last but even more vivid, the reds...
