FallsLake
Temp has dropped to 10.7 at the house. Grid forecast has me getting up to 36. Definitely a marshmallow world outside. I told the kids today was going to be the day to go sledding. Starting tomorrow the warm up starts.

alhooks13
I'd say 6 - 8" in Kitty Hawk. Believe we started with ice pellets around 8pm last night. The wind blew hard last night and I've seen drifts over 2 feet tall around structures. My only complaint is that in came in overnight and I couldn't see it as the event unfolded. I'm going to Kitty Hawk for my summer vacation this year. Disney World last year; this year we're toning it down. Love the Outer Banks.

JoshWeather
my old hometown of Roxboro got reallllllly close to a foot. Parents in durham got 9 inches. People downplayed temps before the event. But they mattered a good bit when it came to accumulation totals
kvegas-wx
Would love to have some historical context once the dust settles, but we rarely have a Murphy to Manteo event.....especially with these totals across NC. Could be one of the biggest storms ever?
WinstonSalemArlington
So, was Snowmaggedon January 2018 a glorified Clipper, Arctic Bondary Frontal Passage, or both?
tramadoc
Between 5.5-6.5" here south of Elizabeth City. Sorry about the darkness of the photo, but it's 6.25-6.5".

WinstonSalemArlington
How are the Northwest North Carolina mountains doing relative to climo? I haven't paid as much attention to Boone, Avery County, Wilkesboro areas?
Jet Stream Rider
Snow cover this morning from Goes16. Note as epic as it was, not everyone in our forum fared well. Not even everyone in NC, but most in the Tar Heel state did very well.

I like to put this in the group of storms that drop in from the northwest (at 500mb). The weaker versions of the storms are deemed clippers. The stronger ones like this one can be termed Manitoba Maulers (dropping sharply southeast out of Manitoba)...this one fits that moniker

yotaman
Got about 2" here just southeast of New Bern. The winds last night blew the snow around so much that most roads are melting and clearing pretty nicely in the bright sun. Snow didn't start until around 10 pm. Far different snowfall than 2 weeks ago.
jpbart
Glad so many got some action out of this one. Down in chapin I ended up with some icy bits on my windshield wipers that blew away as I drove to work. Streets were even pretty dry this morning.
