The next question is....does the second band form along the next jet streak. The second band is what brings accumulations into the central valley...last couple runs of HRRR is starting to slowly come down from earlier. ShawnEastTN
Don't think I have seen so much cliff diving on here as I am seeing today.... Even if everything stayed as solid as it was earlier, likely 80% of your accumulations would still come from the back 30-50 miles of radar returns. Best ratios are there. Be patient. ShawnEastTN
I'm about as low elevation in the valley as you can get being on the Tennessee River at the Roane/Meigs county lines and got a good covering occurring in a short amount of time. I've noticed when the radar lets up to virtually nothing it is still snowing for me its been fluctuating heavier lighter heavier lighter since it started. bearman
I have not seen this much cliff diving on here either but we have had a lot of disappointment over the last few years hope this will not be one of them.

Are you saying the HRRR is holding true to the second line taking over and possibly filling in? Looking at it on pivotal that’s what I’m seeing. . PowellVolz
Finally started here...temp down to 40.9I went from 38 to 25 in a little over an hour and now I’ve got mod/heavy snow. .
PowellVolz
Looks like it’s starting to fill back in the southern plateau area. .
ShawnEastTN
May miss some returns upstream for the valley. Looks like Hytop Radar is down for maintenance and no longer updating.

Just noticed that myself That will cause a large area to look empty, even in the national radar which is a composite of local radar sites, and its our upstream area too. ShawnEastTN
So we now have a large hole with Hytop Radar down. All returns around the area are from Birmingham, ATL, MRX, BNA and Columbus radars. Definitely cannot rely on radar at the moment for upstream. You can watch in the national loop when Hytop just goes off all precip disappears.
MattPetrulli
interesting could be pouring snow with nothing on radar.

TellicoWx
if you toggle between Columbus and Nashville, you can see the next streak of moisture pointed and coming onto southern plateau...this should be the jet enhancement the HRRR was showing

ShawnEastTN
Yeah i'm heavily relying on Nashville radar now. If it shows stuff on the southern plateau with snow being harder to detect and higher returns near the nashville radar site, those are good bands on the southern plateau. I think MRX forecast is likely spot on.
TellicoWx
What I'm wondering is, the HRRR is ran from assimilating radar data...so how's it going to affect that model or does it?

It will affect HRRR future runs. Likely cannot trust it fully at this point. It really a wait watch and see event for the most part now. Though I still believe the last bands that pass each of us will be where we get 75 to 80% of our snow.
