About 40 miles north you had to go to get any accumulation over 2 inches. This was a humongous bust for the 287 to 84 corridor. Near and above 84 raked. South of 287 there were no expectations but in between 3-7 was forecasted and I'm in the northern most part of westchester and I have less than inch. Freezing rain this morning was what caused the school closings. It was treacherous around 5.
Heavy Wet Snow
Rockland and northern westchester have been tough places to be for the last 3-4 winters, we have consistently getting 40-50 percent less on each event than surrounding areas. The big coastals our latitude is too far NW but during mix events we have been too far south.
HeadInTheClouds
Picked up another .5 inch for a total of 8 in Hyde Park. Still snowing very lightly, makes 29 hours of varying intensity snow.

Wetbulbs88
For NYC it really came down to a QPF/rates problem. We knew by yesterday AM that 925s would be a problem, but a good number of mesoscale solutions had a decent thump on the back end -- in fact all of them did at one point or another. Globals seemed to have the right idea for NYC at least (not LHV, busted way low there).

I'm at work in Grest Neck 200' elevation. This pic was taken out my window at 9:45. It snowed hard for 2 hours after this. Melting some. Is that it stopped. Driving up here was brutal at the height of it. Mostly because people are morons. You said there was an inch or two on the roads making it treacherous. Of course snow will be on grassy areas. HeadInTheClouds
I just want to thank all the guys who post maps and those who had the guts to put out a forecast. This was a tough one for sure considering model inconsistency, thermal profiles, and general set up. There are a lot of knowledgeable posters on here and you guys do a great job. the_other_guy
Reading posts on here from afar I thought when I landed at Kennedy today that I’d be landing in a snowglobe with treacherous roads And at least 2 inches on the ground. Little did I know that I would not even begin to see snow cover until I was abeam co-op city in the Bronx...Sporadic dusting at best! If you guys want to keep the integrity and professionalism of this weather site some of you have to get real with your observations. I have a Birdseye view of the New York City metro area several days a week… And I find some of the descriptions on these observation threads very questionable.
