Red1976Red
GSP AFD update says threat has diminished significantly for the mountains. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some advisories cancelled after lunch time.
Iceagewhereartthou
Well I think I'm out of this one, temps soaring, 37/23, now my warmest since the outbreak began!

BornAgain13
Gotta love weather in the south, go from freezing with no winter weather, to having moisture, but not cold enough lol
Disc
28/11 right now. Cloudy. Dry air is eating up the precip as it moves east.

Red1976Red
Blacksburg said area soundings support snow and sleet through 2pm. They will also being doing a special balloon later to see the profile as it changes to mostly freezing rain.

GreensboroWx
I think the big deal is not necessarily the precip type...rain/freezing rain, but the cold ground/road/bridge pavement temperatures. It's been below freezing for over 7 days in the Triad and insolation is quickly eroding as I type meaning whatever precip does fall, could freeze and cause a lot of problems. It won't take much either.

Quiet a few snowflakes and sleet reports on the mPING app with the leading precip shield in south-west Virginia. I believe this will bleed down into northern NC before freezing rain is dominant. Red1976Red
It’s go time. Lots of sleet here in the high country (Boone/Blowing Rock) now with temps above freezing. Maybe it will cool some. Expect snow/sleet further east and not freezing rain until later in the event. Profile does not support freezing rain yet.

Red1976Red
fyi rain has washed the roads around Boone and everyone is driving fast. probably don't bode well for some, snow/sleet was cool to see. Non-event for high country. Drove by lots of people wearing shorts and t-shirts during the snow and sleet. Guess it is 40 degrees warmer but still. Red1976Red
Hats off to the NWS Blacksburg, many areas will only see snow/sleet and no freezing rain with the dry air and warmer temps. They correctly read the sounding profile areas in NC and VA.
CummingGaSnow
It's crazy just how fast temps/dp's skyrocketed this morning without precip. I didn't expect that. I suppose that wouldn't have happened had we had precip. It's all the way up to 40.1 here with a dp 33. Crazy to think what could have been if only precip wasn't delayed a few hours.
