It's still Earth Chuck, only a change in the universal simulator.

Special Weather Statement
National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ
128 PM EST Thu Jan 4 2018

NJZ012>014-020-026-042000-
Middlesex-Western Monmouth-Eastern Monmouth-Ocean-Coastal Ocean-
Including the cities of New Brunswick, Freehold, Sandy Hook,
Jackson, and Long Beach Island

...HEAVY SNOW WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW CONTINUES...

At 130 PM, a band of heavy snow was located across Middlesex,
Monmouth, and Ocean counties. This band will continue to shift
eastward through the afternoon. Snowfall rates within this band
are expected to be 2 to 3 inches per hour.

The combination of heavy snow and strong winds continue to result
in considerable blowing and drifting snow, treacherous road
conditions and visibility in many places reduced to one quarter
mile or less. North to northwest winds will continue to gust 40
to 50 mph with the higher gusts along the Shore. The snow is
expected to taper off later this afternoon.

Travel will continue to be severely impacted due to the combination
of heavy snow, strong winds and significantly reduced visibilities.
Unnecessary travel is highly discouraged especially in the coastal
counties.

Wind gusts have dropped considerably since this morning although it is still somewhat breezy.  Currently down to SN- with temp 23F. Dews are starting to drop again, now down to 18F.  Stepped out back and sunk right into a near 1ft drift up against the back steps.  lol  Made a few measurements on my board and got 4.75", which is pretty much close to the mark on the yardstick attached to it.

from NWS Mt Holly Discussion in the climate section :

Leading with the following: In a short 20 year period of accessible
history...Mount Pocono has never recorded a complete single day of
subzero temps. It has only 2 consecutive days of max temps sub 10F.
There is a good chance Mount Pocono will remain at or below zero
from about 7 PM Friday through about 10 AM Sunday. That will also
include some wind chill of 30 below.

thanks, didn't see that.   It's typically 2 degrees colder here than in mt pocono most of time as well.

if power goes out = disaster

4.3" here using melted liquid method from rain gauge and ratio chart based on approx air temps. Not 100% accurate but melted down had .27" le with air temp 20-22F during event = ~4.3" snowfall. Flurries periodically now but likely wont add to the totals.  Another overperformer.

What's the total for the season so far? 15" or so?

I'm in the middle of that band trying to form near Allentown yet nothing is falling from the sky. The dry air has really rung out the atmosphere here. Overall season total so far at 15 inches. Looks like we might have a couple more small/minor events in January but this month doesn't look too favorable for a big storm. We'll see how the upcoming pattern goes.

Just got back in from taking the little bit of snow off the one side of the car (the rest of the car was completely clean) and shovel a little path to it. Am down to virga now despite returns showing on radar.  Dewpoint down to 13 and dropping relatively quickly.  Temp is 23F and still getting intermittent gusts and blowing snow.

Eta: i have a snow log in my signature you can check....might need to adjust your view settings

Ok, thanks. We're not that far from average

Yeah, I have sigs disabled. I'll enable to view your snow log then disable. At least I know it's there now.

I would never use that method...way too many discrepancies as way too many variable with w.e. equations to make it work well...PHL airport did use that for a while and abandoned it due to it's inaccuracy. Although with this storm I understand your thinking but really the best way is to find the snow depth on a day like today is to find the most level spot on your property and take 10 sticks across a few hundred feet and average them.

That's sounds like a real pain in the ass. Honestly, on a windy day like today, I don't how anyone could get a snow total with any degree of accuracy...
