UlsterCountySnowZ
The storm should conventionally follow the arctic boundry if the kicker wasn’t there, what a track it woulda been too

Ace
Very impressive shift in one run. Btw the 3km Nam just started coming out as well and looks like it might even be more amped that 0z.
Ja643y
Looks like a result of more negative tilt from the "kicker"? I am very new to looking at 500 maps and I'm a little tired, but possible?
brooklynwx99
This is all you have to see regarding the 06z NAM. The 250mb jet is much more expansive, allowing heavy precipitation to expand outside of the LP center. Upper levels are very conducive for major snowfall. We’ve been discussing whether the surface will correct for changes in upper levels, and I think that we’re seeing that here. The NAM is a crippling blizzard. weatherbear5
Big changes on the NAM resulted in that huge hit. Just look at the heights over NE, they were so much more amplified from the ULL being much stronger.

SnowGoose69
Probably just a NAM thing or a 06Z thing. RGEM hasn’t been that crazy despite being more west. The only legit explanation could be that the surface low has or is about to form. That could potentially have caused a change since it may be easier for the models to resolve the insane multi low setup once it’s formed
brooklynwx99
I think this is the factor. The SS wave initialized stronger and farther west than 00z. This might have allowed the storm to buckle sooner and amplify. The better positioning and enlargement of the 250mb jet only poured fuel on the fire.
