mitchnick
Can't recall when we had 2+ days of the frigid cold like this. One day, sure, but 2 days with highs in the mid-upper teens and 3 nights in a row of single digits, nope.

WEATHER53
Most stations have been sub20 for highs last 2 days, DCA just one of several currently 17 here with northwest wind 23mph producing wind chill of minus one, factor in the direct sun warmth of +10 and it feels like 9 doing the mini Jebber

T. August
I’d love to hit zero. My station’s coldest reading in the last 4 year’s was in Feb of ‘15 at 3.8F. It’s just so hard to do it in my area. Just up the road during that same cold spell they hit -2/-3F. we’ll see though. I think 2.4F will be the low.

astarck
Maybe as or more impressive with this cold are DCA's lows especially with UHI. How often do we get 8 (incl. tomorrow) days in a row or 12 out of 13 days with lows below 20? 12/27 19 12/28 16 12/29 1912/30 22 12/31 16 1/1 13 1/2 13 1/3 13 1/4 16 1/5 13 1/6 11 1/7 ?? WVclimo
Another record falls at MRB ! Here is a list of new marks set this during this cold snap: 1/6: max temp of 17 (previous low-max was 18 in 1988) 1/5: max temp of 16 (previous low-max was 19 in 1968) 1/3: low temp of 0 (previous record low was 4 in 1971) 1/1: max temp of 22 (previous low-max was 26 in 1977) 12/31: max temp of 18 (previous low-max was 19 in 1962) Next one that is in jeopardy is the record low for tomorrow morning, +1 set in 2014. Arctic high pressure will move over the area late tonight. The combination of clear skies, light winds and the snow cover will allow for maximum cooling with many areas breaking their record lows. Temperatures by sunrise Sunday will range between two degrees above zero to eight degrees below zero. In addition, any melting of the snow that took place today will refreeze. Many secondary roads across central and eastern Virginia as well as northeast North Carolina will again be ice or snow covered resulting in hazardous travel tonight into Sunday morning. Motorists are urged to use caution while driving, keeping plenty of distance between you and other motorists.
wxdude64
Currently 11.5/-6.8 after a 15.2 degree high. A run for below zero seems likely with the winds laying down and the low DP's. I'll need to get below -4 to beat 2014. The 15.2 crushes the old low max for tomorrow of 21 from 1988, course we have to get to the 7am reporting time..... Bob Chill
It was biting out there walking the dog as the sun went down. First half of the walk was in a stream valley so wind wasn't bad. The upper field part of the walk was brutal. I was dressed well so I wasn't full body cold or anything but my god did the wind sting my face. We may not have much in the snow dept but the last few days have been about as bad as it gets around here with cold and wind.
