New Year’s Eve/Day Minor Snow/Ice Event

Down too 33 now.. few flakes& pingers..

KILM changed their AFD..

As of 600 PM Sunday...have issued a Winter Weather Advisory for
most of the area for the remainder of the overnight hours. Once
again moisture in the form of sleet and freezing rain has
overcome very dry low levels and we have received several
reports. I'm getting light pingers & a few flakes)..

The forcing appears to be a combination of a convergence boundary at the surface and some upper level support from the south. The hrrr and NAM have some semblance of this
off and off overnight but were obviously late in their
depictions.

Emphasizing the on and off nature I cannot rule out
another round or two of precipitation overnight, the fact its
new year's eve, a Special Weather Statement is already flying for the wind chills, an
advisory is the best option.

Cold as,, , well put your own descriptor here..

Very nice, sir, but I'm not sure if I would categorize that as "heavy snow". Enjoy!

To mountain people I’m sure it’s not “heavy” but to my East NC eyes it’s dumping haha rates probably got close to 1-1.5” per hour so it’s good snow. this video was on the tail end of the band

Boone and surrounding areas have 2 to 3 inches and not even a winter weather advisory lol

If  that's the case then it's very sad. They've dropped the ball on the past 2 events leading up to the event no doubt and had to adjust as it was unfolding earlier this month. Surely they put out an advisory as this was unfolding this afternoon.

snowing now on top of the ice and sleet covered roads in West Asheville, very slick outside, as someone else mentioned GSP is 0 for 2 now this winter.  didn't call for this and the December 8th storm 13 news and GSP said a trace to an inch no big deal for Asheville and we got a foot of snow  by the end of the day, that was missed badly and this one was also.
