Tim from Springfield (IL)
I thought about posting this as a reply to the Arctic cold snap thread, since most of the subforum's records from that day could be in jeopardy tomorrow and New Year's Day. But tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of another Sunday, December 31--1967, that is. And the famous "Ice Bowl" in Green Bay between the Pack and Cowboys for the NFL championship (en route to Super Bowl II but pre-official AFL/NFL merger). Great article from GRB regarding the conditions leading up to that game (-13F at kickoff): http://www.weather.gov/grb/123167_Icebowl Ironically, the Packers will be "celebrating" the golden anniversary of the Ice Bowl at the Detroit Lions tomorrow. Geoboy645
Now only if we were playing tomorrow at home instead of at Detroit. It is kind of weird that it's this cold exactly 50 years after that game, and having a similar winter so far.
RogueWaves
Saw a recorded replay once-helluva a game!
nokywx
My Father in Law was at the "Freezer Bowl" game in Cincinnati in 1982. Not quite as low as the Ice Bowl on actual temp, but game time was -9°, sustained wind at 27mph. Wind chill was -37° (-59 old scale). He was supposed to go with 3 other guys, but ended up being the only one of the 4 to actually go.
