michsnowfreak
Yesterday, the "mild" day of the week, had a solid overcast and snow all day at Detroit. The high was held at....drumroll...17 at Detroit. With us not hitting 20, a new all-time record will be set on Saturday for 12 consecutive days with high temps 19F or colder. XfireLOW
There is more cold air on its way south this morning.... The creaks, whines, and thumps cars make at -30 can be quite disconcerting.
HillsdaleMIWeather
Anyone know what's up with the few county wind chill advisory gap in IWX? Indystorm
Local FOX news met says Indy's 5 nights below zero are the most since 1990 and 2018 to date is the third coldest in 90 years with average temp of 2.7 behind 1887 and 1928 that had one degree average. I have been watching the true polar cold up along and north of the Iron Range in Minnesota with a hint of jealousy, although I appreciate my car making less concerning sounds in the morning. Hope you are staying safe and warm up there and enjoy the season!
beavis1729
ORD dropped to -1 unless there was an intra-hour bump, with Kankakee (about 50 miles south of Chicago) down to -15. Beating a dead horse...but the UHI is ridiculous. I agree there is probably a bit more snow cover further south of the city...but otherwise the air mass is identical. It wasn't even a true radiational cooling night...and therefore you'd think the UHI impact would be less...but obviously that didn't happen. It's really difficult to fathom how much of an impact UHI has. Tomorrow morning will probably have calmer winds...so the temp differences may be even more extreme. Hope you are staying safe and warm up there and enjoy the season! Around -30 again this morning. Rumors that it was -38 near Loman, MN yesterday morning, but I don't think that is any official . Yes, the coldest air is nearly always just north of the Iron Range and east of US 53. The cold air gets ever so slightly trapped north of the Laurentian Divide ridgelin which keeps the coldest of the cold air north of the Iron Range. Possibly 20 degree high by Sunday afternoon for a 50 degree temp swing in about 48 hours to end this cold snap is going to feel tropical.
cyclone77
-8 this morning. Have -17 in the point for tonight. 850 temps are a little warmer than last night, but the surface ridge is going to settle in right over us by sunrise. Wouldn't count on it but wouldn't be surprised if we make a run at -20.

Snowstorms
YYZ broke a 4th record low this season today. Officially got down to -9.4F, breaking the old record of -5.1F set back in 1959. Saw the following stat online. -6C is roughly 21F. Credit to YYZ weather records.
cyclone77
-8 here. Down to -19 at Sterling. We're actually at a lower elevation than Sterling, but they must have a much calmer BL than here at the moment. Looks like some of the colder sites could go deep into the -20s tonight. Today's forecast high is 9. This is the 12th consecutive day we failed to reach 20 and thus a new record will be set!

Chambana
Well the arctic cold will finally loosen its grip after 2 weeks of bone chilling cold. Had an ideal setup last night and temperatures plunged to -14 right before sunset. I now have 50 in the forecast for Thursday. It’s gking to feel so weird. The link obviously works publicly, but it's actually not supposed to be publicly available. I don't think TV Mets here have link to the page even since we frequently get calls about climate queries that can be done on xmacis.
