Hoosier
33 minutes ago, RCNYILWX said: Since we're running well colder than yesterday evening, not sure why lows won't be colder than this morning. Surface analysis places the 1045 mb line into western IL and surface ridge axis will gradually nose east through the night. High center farther west/southwest from southwest IA into northern MO isn't perfect but it should be close enough to offset WAA aloft and allow for colder temps. PNT managed -21 as coldest in LOT CWA last night and I'm thinking low to possibly mid -20s over deeper snow covered areas is attainable. Already -11 at RPJ as of 00z. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk LAF is fluctuating between calm and very light winds on the recent 5 minute obs. Katy bar the door if that happens all night there but may be dealing with at least some light winds at various times given the surface high not quite ideally located. Just gotta keep the winds down enough to not mix with that warming aloft.
Chambana
We are gonna tank tonight, already down to -10, under clear skies. See no reason for us not to make a run at -20.
Indystorm
IND started the wind chill warning at 00z this evening instead of the progged 03z time because of how temps are falling. -5 here now.
cyclone77
The point has been lowered to -21 for here, -23 at DVN, and -24 at CID.
pondo1000
Still cloudy, at 3 now though. If these skies ever clear, we are gonna tank!
Hoosier
Maybe somebody can explain this but what is the discrepancy between a lot of the area METARs indicating clear skies, and yet the sky conditions on the COD site show "cloudy" for many locations? Is it some issue that occurs because of the extremely cold temps?
Sidewinder
Indy is 4 degrees away from the record, -12 for Jan 1 and 2. If it reaches -13 before midnight and after midnight does it break both records?
CoalCityWxMan
After a brief moderation early next week, the EURO says we'll see another healthy shot of arctic air. Hopefully we get a decent storm out ahead of it atleast, wonder how long this pattern will go on for.

Or it might be if it reaches that before/after 1 am eastern because of how the "climate day" works but I can never keep that straight.

Hoosier
03z temps A trip down memory lane. 03z temps on January 16, 2009. The area from MO/southern IA into central IL/IN is currently running near or in some cases a bit colder than this time on that night.
Geoboy645
Kind of weird to hear all this cold and knowing that I am going to be warmer than you guys thanks to a smaller snow pack. I wonder how cold it would be if we had a larger snow pack on the ground.
