I've gone through the settings and it's set to accept all file types and to automatically display the content unless you specify that you want it to show up as a link. That plymouth image above is a gif url that I pasted in and submitted. I don't see anything specific to your primary or secondary member group that could be overriding any of the main settings. And all i'm doing is embedding the image as a link not uploading the image. i know that depending on the link that it sometimes doesn't work in general so I use the ones I know work. If it is back to the way it was and will now function properly then I don't know what changes you made/didn't make. It was just weird. But glad it seems to be back to normal.
