During the day this felt like an early springtime snowfall for us, it really got down to business after 4 PM

Well we can't blame the sun angle for this one. It was most likely due to the temps being rather marginal 31-32F throughout plus the snowfall rates were light to moderate as well.

We usually see more roadway accumulations once temps are at or under 28F unless rates are heavy.

and the trees are bending over with all the weight of the snow on them lol

It was really pretty driving home a little while ago. The snow was the missing ingredient for all the holiday displays which have been up for a few weeks. It also covered up all the piles of leaves which were still laying around.

I saw what Don posted with the amounts,,,I am in New City , Stony Point is North of us and only got 2.5 ? I did not measure but am curious to see what local guys say came down here but as for my shovel and myself all I can say without hesitation is that here in New City we got more snow than 2.5 .The roads were stupid treacherous a few hours ago when I drove my kid to work. We had 2 inches on my deck alone before it began sticking in the street. I am very curious as to what we actually got here,,,,enjoy all ps still snowing

Any reports from 287 between the Parkeay and 78? Leaving Manhattan to Iselin then driving back to Harrisburg.

All slush in midtown has melted and it’s flurries only.

Around 5 in in the Iselin area; roads are not too bad; it didn't stick much and they had pretreated the area for days before.

This should break daily snow records at LGA/JFK.  Not NYC or EWR because of 12/9/05

Yeah 12/9/05 majorly sucked for Long Island.

Actually so did the Feb 2006 event.

It looks so amazing outside right now, and snow is falling decently again and sticking to everything.

Finally got under some of the good bands the last hour or so.  Up to 5.5" now and hoping to make a good run at 6" with moderate snow falling.  Temps at 30F and with them dropping into the mid-20s overnight, anything not shoveled soon will freeze solid. Did a shovel earlier and will do a 2nd one after the game.

Yep, that last band did the trick, as we hit 6.25" in Metuchen and it looks like accumulating snow is over based on radar.  What a horrible forecast bust, lol.  Was just out in it for the last hour or so, doing a final shovel, taking a walk and making a snow angel.  Tried to make a snowman and, surprisingly, the last several inches of snow are drier than I thought, so the snow wouldn't pack great.  It's stunningly gorgeous out there with the snow clinging to everything, since there's no wind to speak of and during that last band, we were getting huge aggregated dendrites that were about 3/4" across.  If you haven't walked around in it, just get out and do it.  Also, with temps dropping into the mid-20s overnight things might freeze pretty solid, so shoveling now would be advised.
